The mass way is nearly impossible now since they made everything mail in. If you screw up anything they just send it back with no explanation and you start all over again, guessing at what isn't correct. If they have any questions they send it back and you have to answer those questions and start all over again with usually more questions about your answers. Pre covid you could walk into the mass rmv and settle everything right there. That's why I use vt now to both import and register US cars. You have an issue and you can call them or they call you and you can talk about it like gentlemen.
I get upset going to a mass rmv, I am ok with going to the VT rmv.
For what it's worth I did a title thing in NY by mail.
Had to prove a chain of ownership of the vehicle with all the documents and paperwork provided as to how I came into it etc.
Only used had to do it this way once, but I didn't get any grief and new title came in the mail later.
A neighbor of mine just bought my KTM & regged through VT... got his plates yesterday, only about a week after he mailed the paperwork in.
