    warped rotors???

While under moderate to heavy braking, I am getting a vibration from the front end.

the pads have about half life and the suspension is balanced to where I like to ride it. the rotors seem ok, the question is ... can a warped rotor cause this vibration?

It's frequency is some where between the engine and the road and only happens some times under the mod to heavy braking

I thought about wheel bearing but when lifting the front end there is no obvious bearing play

    any sugestions ....

i'd go with the warped rotor first, how bout when you come to a complete stop. do the brakes grab very suddenly when almost completly to a stop?

    warped rotors???

if that is possible the alloy of the wheel would not re shape sometimes and not others. seems to be ride distance and speed related

like the rotors or pads are cold

can the rotor loosen from it's mount?

    warped rotors???

hmm. i'd have to say its the rotors, then. they do tend to vibrate like that when they are becoming warped. very rarley do they come loose if they have never been touched before, and if the bike never had any dumps. but hey try tightening em up. i'm having that same probs on my duc at the moment. sucks rotors are so exspensive now.

ok then all ya gotta do is take an alen wrench, or socket and tighten the bolts at the bottom of the rotors until bottomed out then give a little extra crank to make sure there tight. you dont even have to take the wheel off. just go around the rotor and hit each bolt. i think there alens on your bike. most are.

These are the ones that are held in by small cock ring things kinda like a press fit rivet

i'd also suggest takeing a flat head and wedging it between the pads and the rotor from the top of the caliper and seperating then. what your trying to do is depress the pistons into the caliper. then bleed your brakes. this will help with the nonsence.

    warped rotors???

Pull your pads and give them a quick scuffing with so fine sand papper and then hit the rotors, this will get off the glazing and should be done every 5-10k miles. then bleed the lines.

If that doesn't work ask Pat because every one knows that he knows every thing

Front vibration can also be caused by a loose steering head bearing. (thanks to Degsy for that little tidbit of info.)

    warped rotors???

The difference is where the "feel" comes form but it is tough to discribe

The best way to check the steering head bearing is to put it on a front stand (pin type) sit on the bike and slowly move the bars back and forth to try and feel a "click" make sure no cables are binding and make sure it is smoth

This might not detect it, since the triple type front stand rests on the bottom of the triple and effects if the steering head will move back and forth or not.

The best way is to get the front end off the ground and not supported by anything and the bike supported on jack stands (usually under the front part of the engine somewhere.
