    Pants vs. suit

So, for the last couple of seasons I have used a pair of cheap Technic leather pants zipped to my A-stars jacket. This week the zipper blew out of the calf (I don't have big calves, the zippers just suck). The question is... buy a new pair of leather pants, or step up to a full leather suit? I want to do track days, but living on an island, and work being as busy as it is, I'm not sure that I will be able to this season. So it's basically just for street riding, trips off-Island, etc... Suggestions? Full suit, new pants...??

i love my two piece vanson for the street. it's so handy. i can take the jacket off if i'm walking around off the bike. or i can use the jacket alone with jeans if i'm not in a power ranger sort of mood.

i used the two-piece as my race leathers at louden. i've crashed tested them several times, at speeds up to 120 mph (on the highway, yikes) without saftey issues compared to an uncomfortable inconviniant full suit.

May be true, but it only works if you wear it. I am far more comfortable in a two piece. If you have the extra cash, consider buying 1 pair of leather pants and 1 pair of perforated leather pants for the really warm days. Again, it increases the chances you'll be wearing leather if something goes wrong on the street.

Or, go for the perfed leather pants and wear under armor on the colder days. I've work my perfed leather pants on 30 degree days.

how about getting the zipper fixed on the pair you have and then next summer when you might have more time you can spend the money on a new pair or a full suit.

It really sounds like you will be doing the majority of your riding on the street - at least for this year, so I'd recommend just getting a new pair of good quality pants with knee pucks. If I remember correctly, the A* jackets do have a full zip to connect to pants - so you could always use that combo for the occasional track day for the time being. The other option is to rent a set of leathers for track days (we charge $60 a day for the rentals) until you are sure that you'll have time to do them more frequently before making the investment on a full suit.

Thanks for all the input! I don't think I'll bother trying to get the current pants fixed... Now that I'm getting back into cycling shape, they're a little big. I'm leaning toward perforated pants, or perhaps a new 2-piece. Now it's time to start shopping around....

Bring your jacket when you're shopping. All pants, even those from the same manufacturer may not have mating zippers.

What size are you? I've got a set of teknic leather pants in a 32 that I need gone for like a buck fifty. I wore them a couple timesz before realizing they were too small for me and they've been hanging in my closet for the past 2 years. I also have a set of fieldsheer leather pants in a 34 that are kindof pending sale. Let me know.

Thanks man... I actually might be buying a two-piece now from a buddy of mine. I still have try it one first, but it sounds like it should fit. If it doesn't work out, I'll let you know.
