    wave rotors vs standard rotors

I know there is weight and heat dissapation advantages with wave rotors

my question is wear, do they wear down quicker? do they warp easier ?

I have heard that for some makes the stock rotor is lighter than the Galfer replacement. 600RR for instance.

But I have not verified this myself.

I just put em on the RC at deals and the stopping power is noticably better. I dont know how they will wear.

I have heard that, my biggest concern is longevity, if I can get better stopping power without giving up longevity I will go with them

I have had a problerm with warping rotors lately

Shouldn't they resist warping pretty well since their main point is to shed heat more easily? Uneven heating/cooling is what causes warping right?

Seems like in a few more years all bikes will have them.

in my instance, I think it's more locking the wheel up with my fat ass 300lb+ I don't use brakes a whole lot, my rotors never get very hot, I think I just put a lot of torque on them in slow speed manuvers

both my sets of front wheels have a pulse not, my off road one is better, just slightly developing, my street wheel has a pronounced pulse in the brake making it very hairy to break quickly with the SVs pogo forks

How often are you locking the wheels? The rear in dirt?

Also are you still on the original rotors? Maybe they're just shot.

And didn't you upgrade the forks a long time ago to get rid of the pogo effects?

I rebuilt forks with progressive springs @ 65k, @ 102k I replaced those with a set of stock forks I got on fleebay that allegedly had 7k, however the front wheel of the same bike (my dirt wheel now) needed wheelbearings, I suspect, the guy I bought it from blew the motor doing wheelies then parted it out in ebay, almost every part was up for auction except the motor itself, carbs, tank, forks & wheels I bought , swingarm, frame, subframe tail, etc

no Ben, problem is front wheel, not rear, I lock up front wheel when riding off road quite a bit, I can only compare it to trials riding, if you've ever seen my driveway

on my dirty wheels, the rotors are oem with now approx 30k miles, those are still acceptable

my street wheels are my originals, @ 75k, I started getting pulsing brake, put new calipers & rotors (EBC)on, still pulsed, but not bad so long as my fork seals were ok. turned out my wheel was bent, I had MCWheel straighten it, but it still pulses now even worse, so I gotta assume it's the rotors, then have about 50k on them but also have always been installed on a bent wheel until I had it straightened this winter after I got my spare set.

I was checking out new rotors, and I notice the EBC wave rotors are the same price as the regular drilled ones, $139 @ kneedraggers

I believe the wave disks are thicker than stock in many cases. I assume this was to address warping issue. But Randy, I think your wheel is fucked. I understand that the bend very easily after they've been straightened once. Bottom line is, you're outside the box for the intended use of the product. You'll have bent wheels pretty consistently I would think.

Yah why not convert to some spoked rims.

Or just buy a dirt bike.

Randy, when you replaced the rotors, you replaced the carriers too, right? It's actually the carriers bending that often causes pulsing.

OK I have gaf rotors on my gsxr and love them. I have had them for four years now and no problems, I just keep scuffing them every winter . As for the pulse I had it also and called gaf about it and was told to offset the rotors so the wave "pattern does not match" . It works to the point were I dont feel it because its my bike .

I put the used rotors back on the wheel after I got it back from straightening, the brakes pulsed so I remounted the other wheel, the wheel has not been ridden anywhere to get bent again other than 1200 miles highway

I have only bent one wheel so far, my rear is damaged from when my caliper fell off

Funky floating rivets should have solved your problem.

ok, I usually put on 25k+/yr

my original oem rotors went 75k, my ebc replacements 50k

    pads last me 35-40 k

for the difference in price betreen the ebs waves & stock, if the ebc's last 25k it will be cost effective over oem, but not over ebc regular rotors, they cost the same as the waves, but I know they last 50k
