    Wayne Rainey rides again

I hadn't heard about this before... Just came across it in my YouTube recs

Having learned after-the-fact about his racing history, what he accomplished, what he went through, etc. via films like Faster, and knowing where he is now & what he's trying to do for this sport in our neck of the woods, this was so great to hear about. Gotta say it started my day off cuttin a few onions. Super happy that this was made possible.

I believe this first video is of his first moment back on the bike... Hit me right in the feels.
    The second provides more background...
The third is the demonstration ride at Goodwood w/ Mick Doohan, KR Sr, Kevin Schwantz and Dani Pedrosa.

I remember being at the Daytona 200 in 1987 and watching Wayne Rainey win. If memory serves me correctly he was battleing Schwantz who crashed late in the race.

Not to take anything away from Rainey … but, um, did you happen to catch last year’s NEMRR September round … where Tim Rinaldi competed in his first club race since an accident at work over a decade ago left him permanently paralyzed from the waist down? Timmy was a fast guy back when I started out with LRRS. Always helpful to us newbies. At the time I believe he had done or was doing some AMA rounds too. His accident ended all that for him. Through the years I had friends give me updates on him, saying that he was determined to get back to the track (but doing trackdays). I had no idea he was at the track for last September’s round. I didn’t believe it when I heard his name over the PA system for his first race. I found where he was pitting to congratulate him just as he was pulling in after his first race. As his pit crew grabbed his bike and he took off his helmet … the huge smile across his face … priceless. …. hit me right in the feels. One of our own.

I'll be riding Motocross with Doug Henry next weekend, another rider who has come back after being paralyzed.

At his house? He lives like two streets over from me.

He’s my favorite athlete ever, in any sport, in large part because of how he’s handles what happened. Legend.
