I have a good friend who is a police officer here in Hinesburg, the town I live in. She responded to a bike wreck last week and was telling me some of the details last night.

A car basically went left in front of a bike without looking, so not the rider's fault.

It was very, very hot out. The rider was wearing sandals, soccer shorts and a t-shirt. He went through one of the car's windows.

The glass sliced his pecker and balls in half - the long way. Basically, it was described as "His ass crack now ends at his belly button."

Just a reminder - yes, its hot out, but wear your fuckin gear anyway. Nanny Highsider says so.

most of us just wear jeans, helmet, and jacket. would it help in this case? hell would leather pants help in this case? not likely.

I'm thinking a pair of jeans would have kept the poor bastards dick from being sliced up. Even if it didn't entirely prevent it, it would certainly make for less slicing of one's genitals.

I think just the opposite. There is no doubt in my mind that leather pants would have greatly reduced the severity of this particular injury - perhaps even prevented it.

My cousin went to work for an emergency last Tuesday ( on-call ),, about 1/2 mile from the house 2 cars taking the DREADED LEFT turn ,, first one , no prob ,, the second however crossed the double , he braked hard , down he goes . He was wearing F-ing shorts and a tee shirt !! Luckily he was going about 30mph so damage is light ,, but he's got a broken clavicle and a little rash on the forearm and some on the hip .
The driver got cited so things will be paid for ,, but still GEAR GEAR GEAR folks !!! Even short around town ,,,, stuff happens !!!

Ya know what's really cool. When you have road rash and your freaking shorts are MELTED INTO YOUR SKIN and they stay up even though they are half disintegrated... that's really awesome...

WEAR YOUR FREAKING GEAR, why would you want to risk the mega pain of a serious injury recovery when all you have to do is toss on some gear and avoid stopping for long periods of time?!

Not just wear your gear, but get good gear too! No brain buckets man, don't be You're NOT THAT COOL. Take it form the crash master... I was debating whether or not to get those super-pricey Held racing gloves for the track this year, and decided to cough up the loot. ONE race weekend, 2nd race, crashed...gloves are totally SHREDDED to pieces. (In fact, I need to find those - has anyone seen them? - those are definitely wall mounts.) Not a scratch on my hands. Love the gear, worship the gear...yeah...give me the dragon!
