    Do you wear hi-viz gear?

Adventure bike riders seem to be very "hi-viz." Cruiser and sportbike riders, not so much.

But hi-viz use seems to be increasing so I'm curious how the #'s shake out for people here, who are for the most part pretty dedicated riders.

Lets define it like the Wiki: "any clothing worn that has highly reflective properties or a colour that is easily discernible from any background."

For purposes of this thread, lets say that if you bought it because you thought it made you more visible, that counts.

Yes. Both reflective and visually eye-catching. Anyone who tells you it doesn't help doesn't spend enough time riding in the city.

I wear reflective and a bright color but not the neon Yellow/Green suits the ADV riders wear.

Re: Do you wear hi-viz gear?

All my jackets have phoslite, as well as some pants, and even a pair of gloves.

I also have a hi-viz green fieldsheer vest that I started wearing when I began commuting into Lowell. I noticed a strong decrease in the number of close-calls from the vest alone. This has me seriously considering splurging the cash for a good hi-viz jacket or suit.

I think I'm alot younger than most of the Hi-viz wearing riders (aside from those who are required to wear them) so I get alot of crap from my friends about it.

I will admit then when I first got into riding, two years ago, I got all black gear (I thought it looked cool). It's something that I regret doing (at least I got gear and wore it, most people my age don't), but am working to rectify it.

I don't have any pics of my riding gear, but I have a video of me in my riding attire, from when I test-rode my buddies bike.

My new jacket is pretty visible and has a big reflective strip across the back. Pants are black with a little reflective tape. Not sure if that's considered "high-viz"

Re: Do you wear hi-viz gear?

I remember hearing from one rider who rode ATGATT, but refused to wear hi-viz. He said that wearing hi-viz was like riding with a target on your back

I'm not sure I agreed with him though...

Re: Do you wear hi-viz gear?

    Yes and no.

For leathers I prefer basic black. But I recently bought a British Motorcycle Gear Adventure jacket for dual-sport riding and touring, and specifically got the orange-accented one because it's a lot more visible than the blue-accented one.

If it came with hi-viz accents, I would have bought that.

When it comes to helmets, though, I buy the brightest-colored one I can find of whatever helmet model I'm buying. Example, I have a Shark RSI Hologram, which comes in black and bright blue; I got the blue. My Scorpion EXO-700 is black and yellow striped; if I were to buy another one, I'd get the solid hi-viz one, but it wasn't available yet when I got my Scorpion.

Re: Do you wear hi-viz gear?

I have a hi-viz (yellow with silver reflective) Aerostitch Roadcrafter jacket that my wife got me for Christmas this past year. I feel a lot more confident that people can see me. I've also had comments from people who say basically, wow, I can really see you with that thing on.

I'll probably ride with my mesh jacket (not hi viz) once the weather gets hot though.

All the time now. Hi-viz yellow Olympia jacket, Olympia one-piece, or Olympia vest over Revit textile or Dainese leather.

I thought about this very subject during my msf course. We watched a video comparing high vs low visibility gear and I have to say it makes a huge difference. Made me reconsider the black jacket I recently bought and returned it for a white one.

My jacket is red/black. I guess it's a bit better than the all black one that I used to wear. I should probably wear more seeing that my bike has zero reflectors on it.

All my gear is black, but my bikes are yellow and really loud.
When I get a quite, black bike, I'll get a yellow jacket.

Re: Do you wear hi-viz gear?

Nope, not sure why. My jacket is red and black with reflective strips and stands out decent, although clearly not neon yellow style.

On the pedal bike, it depends on the weather. If it's cloudy, foggy, rainy, snowing, etc. I'll wear a high viz yellow windbreaker. If it's snowing and cold and I'm in a winter jacket I wear the highway worker vest from HD over my jacket. I notice a MAJOR difference on the bike, never sure if I stood out more or looked kind of like a cop. Either way it works. Never really gave it much thought on the bike, only time I recall def. not being seen I was rear-ended while stopped in a crosswalk. I don't recall what I was wearing, it was years ago.

    Yes. Always.

I do see cage drivers reacting to the jacket.

There have been a few incidents where I have approached cars stopped at a side street who start to move forward, then the front of the car lunges down when they slam on the brakes.
