So my first crash ever on a motorcycle. Coming out of work on monday took a left on brookline ave gave it a little gas and the backend came out on me so fast I could not control it. Went down, about 10mph put my left arm down without thinking and dislocated my elbow. hurt like hell till they put it back in, three hours later, now I'm in a splint and sling and quite obviously typing funny. Managed to snap off the footpeg and the mirror, and some rash on the fairing. Mostly pissed because I have been commuting for 5 yrs daily and the first incident was something I had done literally 500 times before, beating myself up on that. I was in full gear but not a scratch on the helmet/leather jacket/ overpants/boots/ not even the glove of the hand I put down. We will see how I feel about riding in the spring.
Peace out

Sorry to hera Zach, Glad you were wearing the gear. Hope you heal up quick.
FYI I did that early one spring except I got Highsided when I tried to pick it back up. Ouch to the new Ducati![]()

That shit happened to me 2 months ago. Took a right hand turn, and because these assholes have to paint the fucking inside of the crosswalks with fucking paint, my rear slid out.
You can see just how slick it is in the pictures. You can also see my slid out rubber mark...Sucks!!
Basically, the whole corner is paint!!!

If all else fails, Lean more....
happened to me on my Zrx early spring, going left out of my drive. back tire spinning bike swapping ends me sliding. get well quick!. oh and I saw where Brendamp slid and his rubber marks. was slick as hell looking and we both rode over it like Carefully. Rosco
uh...me too...right after the dealer said, "Careful. Just take it easy until you scrub off those new tires."
...experience is what you get immediately after you could have really used it...!

Cold tire + cold pavement =, well you know. I try and ride my bike thru the winter and take it to work on Monday if its over 39 in the am. When leaving my street I always give the throttle a little blurp to gauge how bad the traction is / will be by the time I hit RT93 ramp so i don't lose it going faster. It always kicks out a little and last Nov it came around on me in a heart beat and low sided. It sucked. My rear shock was blown out which didnt help and made me hate Dunlops. Hang in there, at least it wasn't your shoulder.
Thanks everyone for the support. Got the splint off today, and have limited range of motion. Doctor said should get that back in a couple of weeks and if all else goes well be pretty much back to normal in 6-8 weeks. I guess it could have been worse but at 10mph it could have been better too. Really lucky as dislocations hurt like fuck until they are put back in and then they really don't hurt at all. Wife is not dead set against me riding again (god bless her soul) but I may no longer be commuting on it. will have to see.
BTW- Morphine not so good on pain, barely takes the edge off! I wonder how people become addicted to that shit? Oh and why is every doctor I run into seems like I deserved to be hurt for riding a bike? I know they are called donor cycles in the ER but people die in cages too (in fact in much greater numbers every year) but they never tell them to stop driving a car? Shit happens, its all how you react to the shit life hands you that defines you.
peace bitches!!!!

Crash Mastah? Here I am believing that Kham is the ticket mastah!
Kham is something of a renaissance man. He has mastered many arts.
I did the same thing once, leaving hooters in nashua. A couple members got to see too, except I planted my foot dirt style and kicked the bike back up without crashing. It did go far enough down fast enough to throw the TIP sensor though.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Glad to hear you're on the way to recovery & should regain full range of motion... i'm gonna have limited ROM in my wrist, probably for the rest of my life after my mis-hap earlier this year.
As far as doc's go, i've heard plenty of stories of ER people scrubbing the living hell outta road rash victims to "teach em a lesson", but riders that come in wearing proper gear get better treatment.... that's not to say all Docs & Nurses think that way, but I'm not surprised that most do.
My surgeon was pretty cool about my hobbies & treated me very well... even discussed the timeline of when I should be getting back on. But that was only after we talked about the risk of me crashing again & after I really went into what I do, how I do it & explained the risk vs reward the way I see it.
The staff where I went for emergency care after it happened was the same way once I told them what happened, what I was doing & what I was wearing.

Did PT for the first time today, got fairly good range of motion to start with, have very little problem straightening my arm its getting flexed side working that is painful, but a lot of that is due to swelling. So I will need to fix up the VFR next spring and will need a left front fairing along with a footpeg/ mirror and bar. Any ideas where to pick up the fairing besides ebay? its a 99 so I would prefer a used one.

Looks pretty impressive Pete. I just looked up the fairing price and its about 400 for the lower. I wonder what repair whould cost. I may have to contact them.
