Ok,
I went to Chuck's suspension clinic, even though my bike isn't adjustable.
Everyone says the SV is too softly sprung. However, I weigh about 170lbs right now. Chuck had said the spring rate was just about right for me, perhaps a little on the stiff side.
So here is my question. Today I purposely didn't fill up the tank before going out on my lunchtime ride, even though I had like 150 miles on the trip meter. On the way back the light finally came on at about 175 miles. I stopped and filled it up, and the bike *really* seemed more stable with the full tank of gas.
I stuck 3.2 gallons in, which is ~19.2lbs by my estimate. Would that be enough extra weight to make the bike feel a lot better?
I have noticed this before, it's just I usually don't let the tank get so empty, and my weight is the lowest right now that it has been since I bought the bike.
Of course, I am quite happy that I got 180 miles out of 3.2 gallons. Either my windscreen made a difference, or my riding style has changed. I used to have the light come on at around 130 miles.
