    Wet T-shirt

I knew it was going to be brutally hot riding home from work yesterday in my one piece 'stich, so, just before I left, I completely soaked my T-shirt with water and put my 'stich on over it. With all the vents wide-open, the evaporative cooling of my torso kept pretty much all of me utterly comfortable for the 52 mile ride. My shirt was almost dry when I got home. This trick turned what should have been a miserable ride into a great one. I've known about the trick for years, just never tried it. I don't think I'll be wearing my mesh gear much anymore...

Next time, I'll try it with a long sleeve shirt. My arms were noticeabley warmer (though, not uncomfortably so) than my torso, even though much of the cooling air was going up my sleeves. With wet sleeves, I bet my arms will be nice and cool too.

What do you do about your feet? My toes were cookin' in my boots yesterday. I don't know if was heat from the bike or heat from the blacktop but something sure made'm toasty.

    Re: Wet T-shirt

I wear Magnum Elite boots (awesome motorcycle boots that aren't officially "motorcycle boots", BTW) that are insulated enough to keep my feet warm on 30 degree days and my feet were fine. I guess the cooling of my torso helps keep the rest of me cool.

This works great when the humidity is low like today. When its get real high not so much.

I stick my boots (thick hiking boots) in the freezer for a half hour before rides on really hot days, as well as my gloves/jacket/t-shirt. Works wonders for rides under 30 minutes. Anything longer than that, the wet t-shirt trick suffices.
