    What to do?

The last street bike I owned was a Honda 929. I sold that about 4 years ago and bought an SV650 to start racing. My only time on two wheels for the last 3 years has been track time only. I would like to pick something up this year for street and probably a few track days. If I get a middleweight bike (ZX6R, R6, 675R) I have a feeling it will turn in to a full race bike sooner than later. If I get a liter bike (ZX10R, R1) I am less likely to convert it to track only. Any thought?

Get another super standard. You will hate todays ss bikes on the street. They are torture racks.

    Re: What to do?

I have never been anywhere near your shoes. I can only imagine based on my 1 track day and years of riding street. But...

I wonder if either of your choices might feel horribly torturous to keep under arrestable limits on the street. After my single day I felt so much more confident that I found myself doing 60 on 30 MPH back roads without even thinking about it. The street feels so horribly slow in comparison.

So maybe compensate the other way; something very pedestrian, comfortable, reasonably light weight and maneuverable. Personally, every time I hear racers talk about how slow a bike is I start thinking I should get one. More fun (and legally reasonable) to ride a slow bike fast, and all that.

I could have my head up my ass here. It has happened. But it is pretty rare.

    Re: What to do?

I bought myself a new r1 to keep myself tamer on the streets. I really beat the smaller cc bikes when im on the street and i tend to just cruise on the liter bikes. I dont even like liter bikes so it works out for me. If i loved the power of a liter bike id probably do the reverse. I like my little bikes.

    Re: What to do?

Soooo buy a super standard. A street oriented superbike that's almost too nice to track. Tuono VR4 or something like that

Not only will you be less likely to convert it to track only but you'll be a lot happier & more comfortable on the street than on a race replica.

Don't see the benefit of getting naked, thirsty bike for street only use.

Try something with a some weather protection, grip heaters and some storage. Extra points for ABS, fuel range and good lights if you're commuting.

New KTM 1200 (1190) if you have thw cash

What has proven true for me is going fast on sh*tty New England roads requires a real suspension

Rt 8a Zoar mountain, hurricane Mountain rt 17 and most tertiary roads need it

Get a Good GPS and find the paths less taken away from most Leos and Cars

Wow, you guys recommending Multistrada S and KTM 1200 - high rollers, all. You forgot the new R1200GS "Wet head!" And the Triumph 1200 Exploder!

This. Before I bought the second V-Strom, I test rode a bunch of bikes, including a buddy's GS1200. "Wow" I told him "The suspension on this bike is awesome - 'controlled and plush'. No wonder these bikes are so popular."

Turns out he had the Ohlins suspension upfgrades, front and rear. Bought the V-Strom with ABS and put cartridge emulators in the front and an ELKA in the raar. The SV650 got Racetech/Penske and so did the Tiger.

If I were buying a bike today, it would be a Super Ténéré 7˝" suspension travel, dry sump, 200mile + range, ABS, laced wheels

    Re: What to do?

Dayon - the spread of suggestions here is probably because you left the door wide open! Couple questions that might help hone in on what you're looking for...

    1. It's implied that you no longer have the track only SV650 - correct?
    2. Is not having a track bike a concession? Why the shift to more street oriented?
    3. You don't say anything about money. Budget. New vs used. That would help too!
    4. You don't say whether your observation that, "If I get a middleweight bike (ZX6R, R6, 675R) I have a feeling it will turn in to a full race bike sooner than later." is a good thing or a bad thing!
    5. What sort of street riding you anticipate? Sporty day trips? Commuting? Mini (1-2 night) tours. Longer tours..?

There are SO many awesome choices today. What a great time to live as a motorcyclist!
