Because I found a good deal on one, but it's got high miles (~50k on a 2003). I'm going to ask for service records and all that good stuff, and see if the bike was generally taken care of, but still curious as to what people around New England consider "high mileage" on a bike like this. I know Goldwings and other touring type bikes go for a while...

I wouldn't worry so much about the mileage. I would focus more on the general condition of the bike, how well it was taken care, and how closely the maintenance schedule was followed. If it came from a caring home you should be AOK.
Keep in mind though, if you buy a bike with a lot of miles then pile on a lot yourself, it will be a lot harder to sell the bike down the road. Hopefully you've found a keeper!

In general, high mileage on a relatively new bike means lots of time on the highway. Highway miles are the least stressfull on an engine. The load on the engine is constant, and minimal. The actual number of miles on the engine internals will be on the low side considering the bike will be in high gear more often, more miles per engine revolution.
So,,, if the owner was good with normal upkeep, the bike should be a keeper. I've used this logic on a few used cars I've had, and haven't been let down so far.
I had 45,000 miles on my 1999 VFR when I sold it. It would have gone for many more miles. But, there are so many low mileage units out there that if you're patient you'll find one for not much more with less than 25,000 miles.

Something thing to look at will be the wiring harness.
Check the big fuse under the seat, see if the wiring to it is crispy.
The fuse is tucked on the right side of the battery with the start relay, and can be accessed just by reaching and grabbing it.
There is an issue in the voltage sense circuit and with the wire gauge used to charge the battery from the reg/rect. Both problems easily fixed if they haven't been, so don't get discouraged.
That VFR website I listed above has a guy on it that created the "VFRness." It is an aftermarket wiring harness update that beefs up the weak points in Honda's wonderful charge circuit on that bike. I installed one on mine when I got the bike with 4.2k miles out of paranoya. At 13.4K I havent had any wiring issues yet.
Ask the seller if they have had any electrical or charging issues, and what was done to rememdy it. Even the factory recall fix does not completely cure the issue.
BTW I love my VFR, ask anyone here who has ridden with me, that v4 sounds so good with a gutted or aftermarket exhaustNot to mention the trackday rider on an r6 that had trouble keeping up with me, it's a good bike.

I have an 05 CBR 1000 Repsol Edition with 52k on it and it runs great...oil/filter every 2500mi,clean the air filter each season...bike is flawless except for a few scratches/scuffs.

Mileage can mean a lot or nothing. i bought my bike new 3 1/2 months ago and just ticked over 8k miles on my way home from work today. honestly it sounds bad but judge the person your buying it from. if the look smell and act like a toolbag they probably beat the piss out of the bike lol
Well, the only photos I have are from the seller... so they're no good.
I picked up the bike last night... around 7:30... rode home. Got my g/f geared up and we took a ride into the night. She loves it way over the SV... but I still need to get her on her own bike (the Kawasaki Ninja 250 I bought her... doing some PLP tomorrow night).
