what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

How come they use 5 down/1up and we don't? Is there an advantage to either setup? I mean, it's so easy to change, why doesn't everybody do it? : Thanks....

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

cool... I just flipped the lever around and went for like a 10 min ride, I like it better already, it just seems a little more natural and intuitive, which is cool.

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

I had been riding for over 25 years with 'regular' shifting before I switched last year on the Tiller. When people ask why I did it, I explain like this: Ya never miss a downshift, right? Now imagine that when you make that same shifting motion, you're upshifting...

It took me a coupla weeks to get used to it though. And it really helped during track day going through turn 7 to be able to shift like that. But on the street, it means no false neutrals...

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

I switched to GP this summer, 'cause I was starting to miss 2nd gear shifts. Haven't had a problem since then though. Thanks for the advice stoneman!

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

For me, I like Gp shifting cause you can upshift while your leaned over, ever since they paved the Chichester Center Road, one of the corners I always want to shift up while leaned over, I need to get down into second coming into the corner, but right about the time your leaned over the most, the rear wheel wants to spin, and short shifting into third solves that problem but theres no way to get your toe under the shifter to shift up if you have regular shifting.

I want to switch my 920R to GP, but they don't make it quite as easy as on modern sportbikes

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

I changed it on my R6 for faster shifting (shorter "throw" due to using an r1 arm) and less false neutrals.

At work one time, someone tried to steal it. They hotwired it and tried to take off with the disklock on the front. Luckily it was probably in second because no real damage was done. Then they just left it and tried another bike

Though it would have been worth it to see some asshole theif on the news in a bodybag after revving the hell out of it and trying to do a 1-2 shift and really doing a 2-1 shift, swap ends and go flying off the thing racing up Rt 93.

Beware of stealing peoples bikes. They might have hidden booby traps that only the owners know about.

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

The reason's given are what I have always thought. When I first started riding I thought the shift pattern was opposite of how it should be! Can someone post some info on how to make the change? Thanks!

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

Easy as pie on most newer bikes. Just flip the linkage over that funs from your shift lever to the shift shaft. On my TL-R, the linkage originally connected to the top of the shaft. Five minutes later, it connected to the bottom of the shaft and I had GP shifting...

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

I took my TLR for service about a month ago. The mechanic ran my battery dead trying to find neutral. They had to call me at work to ask if my netral lite was burnt out. Only then did I tell them I had reversed shifting (GP).

what's the point of "gp style" shifting?

guys, you could be the most un-=mechanical person in the world and you could still flip it in under 5 minutes. It seriously took me like 45 seconds. Here's what you do: look at the picture,

see the red bar? Flip it from pointing up to pointing down. You'll probably have to pull out ONE SCREW, the one that holds the red bar in place. you should go try it, 'cause it's too easy to not try.
