    Whats reasonable to pay?

Thinking of picking up Leeza a new dirtbike. Thinking of going new. What is an expectation to get from the dealer? I know they need to make a profit, but obviously I want to pay as little as possible. Gonna go with a CRF150 big wheel. MSRP 5140.
Whats a fair price for both parties? I hate getting raped with the "set up, title, license" bullshit. Can I tell them to stuff those options?

Yep. I never paid any of that crap. Just tell them you aren't paying it.

Honda pays for freight on their bikes to the dealer.

What is a CRF150 Big Wheel? You mean the CRF150R?

Well, I don't think you can really avoid the title registration and license fee if they are State mandated. However, if you can talk them into paying for them just to make a sale, more power to you! Although that really just means they put the fee costs in you sale price, so...

The CRF150R has 17 inch front 14 inch rear. The CRF150R Expert has 19 inch front 16 inch rear.

Honda does not pay the freight, the dealer pays the freight. And there are very low margins on the smaller bikes to begin with....so I wouldn't expect too much of a discount unless you find a holdover that has some rebates on it.

Depends on the state, but usually you won't have a license or title fee on a small bike like that. Also depends on how you pay for it... If its cash you may be able to avoid those, if you finance you may have to register it with the state.

You might be able to talk your way out of a doc fee on a smaller bike...just keep in mind, it's not like dealers are getting rich off of this stuff...

On that model, unless you find a left over, I would be surprised if you were able to get one for less than $200 off of MSRP. You will still have to pay sales tax, if your state has it, but there should be no other fees on an MX machine.
I do not know how good that bike is for a new rider, though. It should be light, but it does not have e-start, and power delivery will probably be fairly abrupt. I have never ridden one, though.

I never pay dealer for title or registration, I always do that separately directly to DMV

    Re: Whats reasonable to pay?

There are a couple 2010ish 150R Experts at the local shop, the custom black bodywork metal mulisha editions for the year IIRC. They're on a pretty big discount, if the chassis was just a bit bigger I'd contemplate one for Gen but other than sitting taller, they're more cramped than her TTR125LE.

Kurlon, details on price? And or name of the shop? Are they leftover bikes? Or used?

    2011 holdover - $3999

I don't think they're big wheel/experts looking at the pic though.

    Re: Whats reasonable to pay?

    aswer to your question:
they are popular race bikes, but are not allowed in many mx classes so chances are you can haggle em a bit.

    my additional bs:
I agree with kurlon and gregp... the chassis size is a tricky ride for full-sized people... we had one for a while, and it was super jumpy/powerful on a short wheelbase for meg. not confidence building or as stable with the high torque, high center of gravity, and better traction then when a kid is aboard. I think leeza has penty of seat time to know how to ride a bike, but if you're planning on putting her on unfamiliar terrain - the TTR125/CRF150F route with upgraded suspension off their race-bike brothers seems perfect for light-weight full-height recreational mx girls.

    megs bike order:
    TTR125L w/ YZ suspension,
TTR230 (made the move because we were doing trail riding and the bigger wheels & electric start were excellent),
CRF150R big-wheel (super jumpy, front end off the ground on the throttle),
YZ125 (adult suspension, planned on taming it with a flywheel, meg loved it in field, but never stayed in the powerband on the track),
CRF150F w/ cr85 suspension F&R (almost back to where we started... loves it, rides great on it).

We're thinking KTM 200 as Gen's next mount. The newest one has e-start, is light, and the powerband can be mild or wild with just spring changes.

    Re: Whats reasonable to pay?

Well shes on a TTR125 right now, and having fun with it. Shes just got it in her head that the suspension just isnt enough for her, and probably so. We just want to get her something more MX specific, since thats all we ride, no trails or anything. Talked to a lady that has a crf150, first bike she ever rode and loves it on the MX track. So we're pretty set on that route

I know you're thinking new... megs had about 10 hours on it when we bought it from growler, and about 15 on it when we sold it to the hoffmans. price was $2200 then $2000... Don't think he ever did anything with it, I can look into it if you're willing to call a shop in ME, then you must be willing to transport for the right deal.

Ehh, probably not worth the cost of shipping. They're around down here for 2-2200 if we do decide to go used. Thanks htough.

    Re: Whats reasonable to pay?

C'mon guys, I was just kidding/reffering to a FB post. If I had something useful to add, I would have added it. I agree w/Kitt on that being too aggressive a bike. big motor, small wheelbase=experts only. It IS called an "expert" not "adult".

That said, I wish I were in TX so I could go riding with you guys and try it out, cause I'm talkin outta my ass here!
