    Wheel 'dent' - Should I get it repaired

    I picked up a used set of wheels the other day, and I noticed the front has a very slight dent in the lip.

    The bead line looks ok, but I haven't taken any measurements to know for sure if it's ok.

    Here's a crappy camera phone pic.

    Do you think it's worth fixing? or should I mount up a tire and ride.

    Wheel 'dent' - Should I get it repaired

    i have the same issue with a wheel i got off of ebay

    has a slight bend in it and when I put it on the balancer it has a very slight hop to it ... do you think i could balance it out with weights?

    probably have the same effect as JB weld in your radiator

    Get a dial guage and measure the runout with it on the balancer. There is a spec for this kind of thing...

    That looks like a Marchesini Magnesium wheel, if it is, throw it away. Magnesium is brittle like glass, ever tried to straighten glass? It's not worth the risk. If it's aluminum, send it to MC Wheel in Keene NH 888-MC Wheel. They do great work, fast turn around. Even a small dent will mishape the tire and cause a hop at speed.

    Even a small dent will mishape the tire and cause a hop at speed.
    when I had mine fixed there were a bunch of smaller dents that needed addressing as well....not only will the tire hop there is a chance for the bead to break at speed....which could be catastrophhic....definately not worth the risk imo

    If I have time (which i'm sure I don't) I'll snap some pictures of the dent I've been riding on for three years without issue. Clocked about 20,000 miles, including deals gap and tracktime, on it without any effects.

    Do whatever makes you comfortable, but I never think twice about it and you can actually see mine.

    +1 on McWheel I just had them straighten a SV front rim, $120 it was bent in 4 places

    I dropped it off last Saturday morning in Swansey (they are located about 5 miles south of Keene) and it was on my doorstep via DHL on thursday

    congratulations....that must mean it has never happened or won't happen to anyone else....you are taking a chance something might happen.....to pretend it will be fine is irresponsible and terrible advice....

    Just like riding with plugs...9/10 you will be fine but is it worth it? To you obviously to others...probably not

    MC wheel repaired both of my wheels recently. My dents were pretty bad so I lost a bit of paint, but the dent removal came out mint.

    He asked for opinions I gave him my opinion and my experience and I specifically said, 'do what makes you feel comfortable'. Yes I ride plugged tires too, and so far 10/10 of the times I've been fine. Do I get a hope or high speed wobble with a bent rim no, and have I had any problems with them, no. Yet you think I shouldn't post my experience?

    I had bent a rim on Storrow last spring, the bike seemed mildly out of sorts, having it up on a front stand, there was a clear hop to it. The bend looked similar to what you have. I had it straightened out and the bike felt 100% again.
