    Who's still ridin' to work?

I'm pretty hardcore about moto commuting (some would say stupid). It saves me dough, I get a good feelin' when I'm the only rider on the road and it usually makes for a better day ya know? But these last few days its been tough on the way home, no relief whatsoever from this heat. Yesterday my bikes c.t.s read 104 degrees.....before I started it....So whose still in?

This guy. But my car actually gets better gas mileage.

Oh well. Nothing wrong with a little sweat and toasty nuts.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I do...right now. But only because my car doesn't have A/C. It's a pain in the ass to gear up for the 10 min ride to work.

But I do shave 5 mins off of the commute time.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I have been riding my 1996 DR650 in every day. My commute is very short, though, at around 3 miles of scenic back roads. Yesterday afternoon, I went out and moved my bike into the shade at work, though. No sense taking the cage, the AC won't even cool the car off before I get home.
The DR makes a great short range commuter. 50 mpg, and I can take the trails home if I want to.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

Commute takes about 20 minutes with no traffic, about 25 with... seems like gearing up and taking the bike actually takes longer than just jumping in the car, but its much, much more fun.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I ride my K100 most days. It's about 65 miles round trip, mostly highway. Armormed mesh gear rocks. The traffic usually doesn't grind to a complete halt and when it does, I just find some back roads and take the long way home. As long as you can keep moving the heat isn't too bad.

The Beemer gets much better mileage than the truck, and it's relaxing.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I have been. I have a 20 mile commute each way. Slab it in, light traffic and take the back roads home in the eve. and I wear full gear including my 2 piece aerostich.

The heat is not bad as long as I am moving but a stopsign in the sun can be a little warm if there are cars already waiting there.

I ride as often as I can. Bike gets triple the mileage the truck does and it's my hydrocarbon therapy.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I was riding every day for a month straight, almost forgot what it was like to drive the truck to work. Then I snapped my clutch cable. D'oh! Oh well, new one is coming in today/tomorrow, so it'll be back to riding. I ride in my uniform pants (army ACU's), A* SMX5's, helmet and mesh A* jack w/ gauntlets. On Rt 9. Yeah, I get hot in the two traffic packed spots, but once I get through them I open it up for a minute and cool right down.

The commute in always puts a smile on a my face for when I get to work, and the commute home seems much faster on the bike = more relaxing.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

Ordinarily I commute March through almost December. 20 mile ride each way here. I have a good mesh jacket but I still sweat dangerously and will feel pretty iffy towards the end of the commute. So I have switched to the car for this week. I prefer riding in December to this.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

35 miles one way 70 miles round trip. It sucks with the heat off the road, the heat of the engine and the feeling like you're driving into a blow dryer.. BUT I am still on the bike. I prefer rain to this tho.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I have about a 20 min ride into work 40 min round trip not that bad with moving traffic but yesturday was horrible. It felt as though I was breathing in air from a blow dryer not to mention soaked jeans . Its easier for me to bring in the bike then anything else so I don’t mind it as much just the humidity has been horrible.

I am still riding. I have about a 80 mile round trip...takes about 50min each way...mostly slab. I ride full gear (which is black) so I really feel the heat.

Getting to work sweaty kinda sucks, but I don't mind getting home looking nasty.

Re: Who's still ridin' to work?

I commute on the bike every day from the beginning of March to mid/late December, and occasionally during the winter if the roads are clear. Rain or shine. This heat included. But I agree with mojobreakfast -- December makes for more pleasant riding than this mid-90s shit.

Hell, a 5 degree day in January is more pleasant than this as long as the roads are dry. At least I can plug in electrics to keep myself warm.
