When my wife wants to go, since she rides slowly, I ride my slow-ass dual sport, and take it easy. I dont subscribe to the idea that “I’m such an adrenaline junky that 100% of my rides have to be at twice the posted limit or its not worth going.” My enjoyment on the rides with her comes from enjoying the scenery, the destination, and from helping her get more comfortable riding street. Plus i get to feel so enlightened that not every single ride is ALL ABOUT ME.
Bought the OEM heated grips for the CB500X as they are quite slick. But man is it a fiddly install! Should finish it this week but it was one obstacle after another.
At the msta in VT the honda truck was there so I just sat on the 500's but they
caught my eye as a good little bike

She (and my daughter) are 5’7 so it’s a great fit. I’d think a rider as short as 5’4/28” inseam could flat foot it if they weigh anything.
Have ordered connectors and other motorcycle electrical widgets from Eastern Beaver in the past. But they’re in Japan. Found a new vendor, who identified the connector on sight and sent it out next day. Bought the terminal tool as well.

Nice find! They also have all the Molex MX150 and Deutsch/Amphenol connectors my new Harley has. Unfortunately their markup is pretty steep. I've already done the leg-work and found the part numbers I need with digi-key. Prices look to be about 30-50% what they ask.

Haven’t been rushing as the weather has been poor, took my time to get all the installs just right. Nice weather this weekend coincided with completion of all the mods.
- Honda heated grips using CB500X harness.
- Honda Center stand.
- Honda 12V plug, which fits underneath pillion seat.
- Puig windshield
- Cortech 18 L tank bag
Took it out for a spin: what a nice riding bike! Pretty quick if you keep the revs mid range. Engine is quite smooth for a twin. Stops very well, front brake is very controllable. Suspension is about average for a bike in this price range. Puig windscreen takes any pressure off your chest up to the fastest I got today, about 55.
I test rode a couple of 500’s including the X and loved the engine for its size.
Now, to complement the 500X for her, my VFR1200X would look great!
What can compete with a Rocket 3? Best ad ever.

Bumping this thread to plug another low seat height bike option that I coincidentally will be selling! lol
I’m going to be selling an ‘04 Monster 620 this spring. It is my vertically challenged (4’11”) wife’s bike. Shaved seat, so very low seat height. Fits the niche if you or any of your wives are like mine and didn’t want a Ninja 250, didn’t want a cruiser, but couldn’t fit on anything else. The bike is a good year; fuel injected, 6 speed, and metal fuel tank so no swelling to worry about. Feel free to PM if you might be interested!
We are making one other change to the Honda CB500F this spring: reservoir rear shock. Stock shock seems pretty low-end.
How about this? Garandman you asked about it. It didn't have the stock exhaust.
the wife has her eye on a Honda Rebel 500 as her first bike.
Because the course fills so quickly she’s thinking of buying it, having me teach her, get her license and eventually take the course.
She’s 5’7”, petite, I don’t think a 500 will be something she necessarily outgrows very quick, it’s a Honda… so Im assuming that’s a pretty risk free choice.
I’ll look up reviews now (motorcycle news uk is my go to), but just throwing it out there for you all also…..
Thoughts? (If she gets into riding I can sell the street bob which is much better for a passenger, and just keep the Scrambler for me only)

I don’t have any thoughts on the rebel 500, but I remember years ago reading a statistic taking the lines of: “riders taught by a friend are __% more likely to be involved in a crash than a rider who has had formal training”
Have her sign up for the class asap. I believe taking the class is now a requirement before getting your license, at least in CT.
My wife has a rebel 250, she's 5'3" and about 120. She has no problems with it at all. I can't imagine the 500 is much bigger. I'm not sure the 500 is as bad but holy shit the idle jet on the 250 will clog if I fart next to it.

I bought a brand new 2005 Gsxr600, got my permit, and just hit the road. Never took the msf course.
I realize that’s not ideal.
She’s ridden dirt bikes.
But now I feel guilty and will likely just insist she take the course first..
Edit 2: she driving and I just pushed that and she says it’s booked til fall, that’s why
And said “plus, how many people teaching their friends are as good as you”…
Awwwwww! If only she knew what most of you think of me.
Still, I’ll get all hands on deck, lesson by committee, including a motorcycle cop. But, have her schedule for the fall.

If waiting until fall is not ideal, might try finding a parking lot that's marked for MSF and/ or MC riding test and practice there.
Also, as someone who didn't take the MSF course, reading about the basics was hugely beneficial to me. I started with a book called "Total Control". It reads fairly easy and has chapters that are more in depth about geometry and suspension setup
GSXF600, Ninja 500, Rebel 300. If first-time on 2 wheels and you expect it to go down a few times, get a pre-scuffed hyosung GV250 or ninja 250
It may be a bit of a haul, but there's a nice layout at Tri-Town Arena in Hooksett.
There are a couple courses out there that will also get you your MC endorsement (NH) if you pass the class. Among others, I've heard glowing reviews of Harley's "Riding Academy" and or "Learn To Ride" programs. As for the state sponsored programs, they're definitely filling up quickly. We were trying to get my daughter into an early class that a friend teaches for the state. No dice. Even with the connection, she's still looking at late summer/early fall.

Back in the day my father put dots replicating the course on our street out in front of the house using surveyors paint. Not sure that was kosher.
IIRC most NH DMV sites had the course painted guides for where to drop their cones. With a copy of the testing booklet, it was pretty easy to figure out where the test lines were. It has been years since I looked though. Is the NH test still just driving around the parking lot? Has it changed at all in the last 20 years?
don't think you can go wrong with a honda...the rebel 500 is ~400lbs...looks to have a pretty low center of gravity...is the tank actually under the tank cover or is it lower?...i know the hd sportsters have a high center of gravity due to the location of the tank, not sure that is the case with the honda
