Thumbs up My wife and the Spyder comment.. Priceless...

Funnies thing I have ever heard from her regarding bikes...

As we were coming home from Quebec City I see the three wheeled Spyder on the oncoming lane. Nothing new, but Kate pipes up. "It looks like they are riding on a riding lawnmower." Joking of course. I look at her and with a perplexed look and she just kept on going. "Imagine that thing had a mower deck attached to it. You could ride home from work and mow the lawn in no time. At that speed the lawn would be done in what 10 min. More time for me" I'm busting a nut now. She keeps on going. "Think about it. Your all packed up for a long trip with you mower deck bike. You head out and now it is time to camp. You find a nice field by a stream with some really tall grass. You can just drop the deck and clear out an area. It would have that fresh lawn cut smell, perfectly manicured and some nice cushioning for under the tent." Think about it....

WTF did this come from. It must have been the 4 hour drive.

You should post it up on the Spyder forum for a few laughs.

I think they have more cool than the trikes and a boat load more performance too.

I don't want one either but the stability inherent in that design could make taking your bride or your kids for a ride a little safer in the minds of some riders.
    I kind of get it.

This thing pretty much has the mower deck, you just need the blade...

Re: My wife and the Spyder comment.. Priceless...

A couple days ago I was talking with someone who had owned a Spyder. She bought it because she couldn't get on her bike due to a bad knee. I think lost mobility is a fairly common reason for going to a 3-wheeler.

She didn't like the Spyder much for 2 reasons. The first was it didn't lean. She said it was like riding a snowmobile, better than a car, but worse than a motorcycle. The second reason was having to deal with all the people asking her about it. Refueling was a PITA because of all the questions she got from people every single time she stopped anywhere - she finally printed up some cards and handed them out instead of answering the same questions for 10 minutes.

Then she had her knee fixed and sold it (got more than she paid for it after 2 years of use) and was very happy to be back on her bike (HD Sporty) again.

I think the moral of the story is that Spyders suck.

I've heard they have some serious reliability and/or QC problems too.

A Morgan is an entirely different animal. A Morgan I get. These Spyders I don't.

FFY. IMHO the Can Am has combines all the disadvantages of a car with all the disadvantages of a motorcycle.

I was at an AutoCross last year with a supercharged Miata, turbocharged Miata, and one with an aluminum V8. The supercharged Miata was just about the quickest street-legal autoX car I've ever seen.

There was also an Ariel Atom. Saw an Ariel Atom on Route 100 in VT last year: not sure how he got a plate for it, but that would be a blast!

Thought most states had some sort of kit-car method? Generally similar to some complex salvage titling/reg, you prove that hte car was assembled properly with a thorough inspection followed by a VIN assignment.
