Anybody have a winch I can borrow? [nevermind]

Update: the bike's not gonna make it into the basement, the break-over angle of the ramps is too steep, it doesn't even come close to having enough clearance. So, I'm just gonna borrow a big kerosene construction heater and do it in the garage

ok, well, I cleared a path through the snow to the bulkhead door, but there's no way in hell I can ride the bike down those stairs, they're WICKED steep. I have one of those little come-a-long kind of ratchet winch things (to get it out), but it doesn't really lower things well, so I need some other way to lower the bike down the staris (on a ramp). There's a tree right outside the bulkhead that I can use to anchor the winch. Any kind of winch will work, I just ned something that will lower slowly. I was gonna use an old boat winch of a trailer, but I left it up in NH last summer I'll go get it if I have to, but if any of you local guys have something that might work, I'd appreciate it.

All the crap I ordered is starting to get here, so I really want to be able to get to work, but I can't really do anything till I get the bike in the basement

oh, BTW, if you're looking for a rear stand, check ron ayers, I just got a lokhart phillips one for like $65, and it's WAY nicer than I thought it was gonna be. it's BIG and made of nice thinck tubing, and it has spring-loaded rubber-padded swingarm cradles (and you can get it set up for swingarm buttons). A great deal, if you ask me. It's not quite a pitbull, but it's pretty close, for a TON less money.

I have one of those cause it fits several bikes. I like it too. Didn't trust the pads at first but I've never had a problem. I hear that you should avoid getting any oil on the pads. Don't clean them with WD40 either.

Sorry I don't have a winch. You could make a simple 4x block and tackle with two pulleys and some braided rope from Home Depot. Would be cheap, easily adaptable and useful in the future. It would allow you to stand next to the bike and gently control it's decent.

HAHA, beet, you crack me up.

stoinky, I was thinking about the black and tackle idea, and that's what I'll do if nobody with a winch speaks up soon

I love the deopt, it's like my second home. No, maybe third. Whatever. I'l be heading there later today

the only thing I miss about living in boston was access to a 24-hour home depot. It's SO much fun to wander around that place at like 2:30 in the morning. People thin you're crazy
