    And the winner is...

An '03 SV650N. Springs/emulators up front, ZX10 shock in back, otherwise only cosmetic mods. Took a while to find the right one, I think this is as close to perfect as I'm gonna get.

Congrats on the new bike! Youre gonna love it! As mentioned above, there are better choices for rear shocks. As a matter of fact, the zx10 shock is not designed for that bike, its weight or its geometry. Lets see some pictures, we like pictures!!

I have a front Monroe Sensatrac strut from a '96 Tacoma that would be perfect. Trust me. I read it works on the internet.

Don't waste your time on shock swaps. Penske.

I wouldn't go for a Fox with an SV.

My '06 SV650N has a Penske on the back and to me, it is the best sorted bike suspension I've ever experienced.

Why? Have you rode on a fox before? This is a street bike. Any of the ones listed in my post I would ride on the street without issue. The fox on my EX500 was great.

Penskes are also much more than others. For a street rider they are overpriced.

I have. Used to have one on my EX500.

I wouldn't buy something they don't make anymore. Last I checked, Fox got out of the street market.

But it worked right? I'm just not seeing your logic. Parts to rebuild are still available.

    Re: And the winner is...

I guess it would be better than a swap from another bike.

Sounds like I should start saving my pennies for a better shock. Whats the concern with the zx10 shock if the length and spring rate are appropriate? That the range of adjustability would be off?

    Re: And the winner is...

That shock will probably be OK for the street, maybe no worse than the undersprung, underdamped stocker (that was at least designed to work with the SV chassis and linkage). But read the shock swap article in the GMD section and remember it if you start riding harder. Many bikes will benefit from an aftermarket shock upgrade, the SV will benefit more than most other "sport" bikes when ridden hard. Unless you're Oxx.

Congrat's on a bike that should keep you happy for a long, long time.
