tire plug kits

I've had 3 nails in the last year of riding and was thinking about carrying a plug kit

saw this thread and now realized there are different plug kits:

which one do you use?

i use whatever $6 generic sticky rope type kit an auto parts store happens to carry with a decent amount of cement. i've plugged a few tires with them and have gotten thousands of miles without an issue. an old roommate did it as well, but i think he was a bit sloppy b/c his leaked and he had to pull over on the highway. it wasn't a blowout by any means, just a leak that he easily managed to ride to a safe stop with. when he got home, i plugged it for him and he was good for the life of the tire.

If the plug inserts from the inside why would you carry it with you?

I have the basic Slime tire plug kit and a DC air topper. I installed a 12DC outlet on my Ninja and it has enough to run the compressor and can charge my cellphone if needed.

You install the plug from the outside just like a normal plug.

After two punctures in 6 months, I carry a plug kit (got a good one at the local auto parts),

can you just use a can of fix-a-flat to inflate the tire after it's plugged? I figure that's small, cheap, and readily available.

If you even remotely like your mechanic (or the person who does your tire changes), don't use FixAFlat. That stuff get all over everything. pick up some CO2 cartridges or get a mini pump like someone else mentioned.

i carry around pretty much the same thing, except i intentionally got the screwdriver-type handles so they take up less room under the seat where space is at a premium already.

I've used this one and the Harbor Freight equivalent and both have served me well. I've rode a plugged tire for 8k miles on an 800lb cruiser without issue. I also carry a $20 mini compressor from WalMart (powered by my cigg outlet) if I'm going to be out of pushing range of a gas station.
