    Question for the ducati/triumph guys

For those of you with either a duc or triumph that has a single sided swing arm I am trying to determine the difference (if any) between the "bolt" pattern that the rear wheel uses for the drive pins. I know both brands use a 4 pin drive but what I am trying to figure out is are those pins on a same diameter circle from brand to brand. In other words, issues of alignment ignored for the moment, will a duc wheel fit on a triumph and vice versa? If any of you have one or the other brand and are willing to measure your wheel/axle for the pin to pin distance (and please note if your are measuring to the inside/outside/middle of the pin) that would be very helpful. Thanks

nope I'm talking about the pins that drive the wheel. they're attached to the flange that supports the brake rotor. you can only get at them with the wheel off the bike.

    off my 03 955i
    -
    the surface is 4 & 1/8 " in diameter.
From middle of one hole to the middle of opposite hole is 3 & 11/32"
From middle of one hole to middle of adjacent hole is 2 & 11/32"

Best I could do with my tape measure. Hope it at least helps a little.

Hawks have the SSSA as well. And VFR's.

I'll see if I can find a pic of my Hawk rim. I haven't taken the rim off my Duc yet.

I know Hawk people try to do this and have to make changes... Sometimes replacing the whole spindle to make it work.

My bike is in storage right now so it's going to be a while before I pull the wheel off but if you plan on swapping wheels around you better make sure they fit 100%. If the pins are a little too small for the wheel you can end up in a lot of trouble, like this:

Edit: Holly shit those pics are huge, here's a link instead

thanks for the heads up but that's really a non issue. new pins are a simple matter of lathe work and I have plenty of sources for that

Those pics are actually from a bike that didn't have the proper amount of torque on the rear wheel nut but the same thing can happen if the pins aren't aligned correctly or the pins too small. I'm not sure about Triumphs but Ducati want's 170 foot pounds.

with apes it's a slightly different issue. if the wheel isn't torqued properly the hole starts to wear and become oblong then you have to replace the wheel. they call For 170 as well
