    WTBorrow Starter Bike

I have two people who I'm trying to get interested in motorcycling.

I'm wondering if anyone has an old/crappy bike they wouldn't mind letting me use in a parking lot with these people for a day.

Being close to this area would be a plus (framingham area).

I would either pick it up with my truck or come by with someone and then I would ride it. Drop it back same way but with a case of beer or something.

Obviously it shouldn't be a pristine new bike, but no matter what it is I will respect it and be careful with it since it isn't mine. I'd replace any parts that happened to get broken if one of them were to drop it in the parking lot.

Yeah obviously they could do the MSF.

However they don't know if they're interested yet, so they don't want to spend the money, and I'm certainly not going to drop $550 for them to go...

Hence the thread looking for some NESR support since folks are usually helpful.

    ^^^ ^^^

I've taught my GF the basics of riding, and she can get along... same with my brother... but they are BOTH taking the MSF course this year to get their licenses.

If someone wants to ride... Pay the $275 and see if they like it.

Because NO ONE will let you borrow a bike when you state "I'll replace anything that gets broken"... lol.

Just saying. Find a little dirt-bike and let them learn in a back-yard somewhere.

If you want to go by Marlboro to pick up my back that's stored in my fathers garage you are more than welcome to. It needs a jump/charge/whatever since the battery is dead beyond words and some gas. Otherwise I assume it should be a go.

If your using it in a parking lot it would assume it shouldn't be a problem that the bike doesn't have a plate right now. Let me know Chris. You know my bike isn't in "pristine" condition so perfect for a newb.

Really? NO ONE? I didn't realize you spoke for all of NESR, who fucked up getting me my memo?

Some of us know, like, trust and respect CEO and would be glad to help out. I've had bikes in the past I'd loan to him in this instance in a second. Unfortunately now isn't one of those times, my only bike is my race bike and the bodywork and tank are at paint.

CEO, dirty bike work? I have a KX125 you could borrow.

Point in case. So much for "NO ONE".

Hey Danny, I just remembered you're this guy from a couple weeks ago:

Guess you never met me then.

Once I get my nighthawk running (might be a month or two). I'll probably be able to lend you my VT500. No beer tho please, I don't drink.

Chris, there is a course offered in CT (idk if it is offered in other places) called the pre rider course. It basically covers the first few exercises of the msf brc and costs much less.

They could take a one hour private lesson at Cycles 128 riding school - professional instruction, Nighthawk 250 included.

I will still take the beer

I think #6 said it all. If you pick a date I can possibly meet you there and someone can take my bike for a ride (05 cbr 600rr). I have full boat so $500 pays for anything that can go wrong.

I have the old Honda XR100R I bought from Ted Duncan last Fall. Seems pretty indestructable but does have knobbies. It's currently stored in Peabody.

Ummm.... what you did is EXACTLY what I'm trying to do. Give them a taste and a little instruction BEFORE they drop the money. After I'm done, if they liked it, I will obviously send them to the MSF.

Anyways, thanks for the unhelpful reply...

This is a great option for sure... I appreciate it. Looks like this might be the best choice so far. If no one else has anything older/lower seat/dumpier within ~2 weeks then I will probably take you up on this. Thanks Ajay!

I thought about this... I have a CRF250 but I don't think the seat height and the knobbies on pavement would be great for the newbs... plus noise, etc. I want to be able to coach them as they walk it around the lot. Thanks though DDK.

If I haven't sorted out one to borrow by then, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!

What else do you expect on NESR? LOL.

Thanks for the offer. If I wanted to go motard route I'd likely use my CRF... I just don't think it's the best option. Loud, no tach or instruments, they'll stall it, it doesn't like to idle until it gets hot, etc etc...

I really appreciate this offer, but I think your bike is a little too new and nice for this scenario, "just in case", ya know? Thanks very much, though.

Yeah I think the couple dirty options I've considered are just too tall for the newbs, appreciate it though.

I have an 04 Ninja 250 problem is its not running right now. If you have some decent wrenching skills you can prob get it running fairly easy. Myself however don't have the knowledge or time to get in running. They can practice on it for as long as they want/need as I got a new bike last year and don't have to sell that one anytime soon.

Hey Chris if you end up wanting to use Ajays bike let me know. We can hook up and get it out of the garage. I need to get his car out of the same garage sometime soon anyways.

That bike shouldn't need much more then a charge and a little convincing to start. Been meaning to get her running just haven't had the time . . or motivation . . . damn this long winter.

This sounds like a good option too since you aren't riding the bike currently, any idea what's wrong with it that it won't start?

A rebel would be an ideal choice, I could always bring the two people with me and do it up near there somewhere. And all get some beers afterwards or something.
