I've noticed a trend as of late where people seem to think they can tow a ginormous boat or trailer with a tiny front wheel drive car. On my ride home from Manchester Sunday afternoon I saw no fewer than 6 small cars towing exteremely large trailers (especially on 95S). 2 of the cars didn't even bother putting the load over the axles of the trailer (yes I said axles plural) and drop almost the entire load on the tounge. Nothing like seeing a FWD car with its ass on the ground and its drive wheels barely touching.
I'm usually against regulations on what people do but people get stupider on a daily basis and when there stupidity puts me at risk and I'm not allowed to do anything about it, that is when I have a problem. I think some sort of legislation should be enforced that specifies the maximum weight that can be towed by certain vehicles. For instance if you drive a Volkswagon Golf and you look up your car in the table it would say something to the effect of no more than 600 lbs axle weight and 150 lbs tongue weight otherwise the trailer will be impounded until you borrow a vehicle large enough to tow it safely.
When someone goes to register a trailer, maybe a quick written test to make sure you know how to properly load and secure secure items on it.
