    Unhappy bye bye 916........

So through word of mouth a guy who was interested came down and checked out the bike. Even before he came to see the bike he already told me he had cash in hand and was coming to see the bike with a pickup truck.

After ~10mins he just busts out an envelope full of cash (5k to be exact ), and we start to load her up.

Sad moment to see her go, as the 916/996/998 series bikes have been my dream bike since i first saw them. But the money goes towards new truck for me, a small trailor, and if i can sneak it in..... a deposit for a 1098. Well depending on how much my wedding is gonna cost me anyways.

But here's a question for you guys. Am I strange to get mad that the bike is going to someone whom will never ride that bike as it was supposed to be ridden? I mean i'd like to say that i ride pretty aggressive on the twisties (as much as my abilities will allow), but i have a good feeling my old 916 will be more of a "trophy" than a machine. I dunno maybe i'm just feeling down to see the old bike go as i was pretty attached to it. Yeah lil cheezy but meh i spent alotta money/time on it, i mean it also had sentimental value to it as my fiance bought it for me after i proposed to her since i sold my previous bike for her ring.

It's a bike. Ride the shit out of it, sell it for whatever you can get for it, buy a new one to thrash. Repeat as neccessary.

Just kiddin. I have got a bit down after selling a bike. You have memories of rides and even the times a bike has let you down.

    bye bye 916........

916's are a machine meant to be beat up on a racetrack or in the twisties, anything less it s crime... just b/c it's beautiful (and it is) doesn't mean it should never be flogged... sucks that its become a trophy bike. i'd feel the same way if that ever happened to my RC

    I think you're wierd
Once the green hits my pocket, I could care less what the next owner does to the bike.
I've been sad to see a couple of bikes I've had in the past leave... for a couple hours anyways

Can look at it like its not going to end up wadded up somewhere so at least the bike will live on.

No I dont think it's weird. I felt a little sad when I traded in my last bike, not because it was my dream bike, but because I put so much time and effort into keeping the bike running great and looking great.

i put alot of time and energy into the care of my bikes. i'd rather them just sit or continue to be cared for the same way rather than be thrashed. besides if they just sit maybe you'll want to buy it back someday and it will still be mint. i know that in the years to come if i've got the cash and opportunity i'd buy my old interceptor back.

Now this is so true, i was thinking about that. I mean I will own another 916/996/998 in the future, i just can't afford to have too many bikes with a wedding closing in fast.

You're going to have to hock your SV for that one.

Sad to see the Duc go.

Don't feel so bad. My brother sold his 916 this summer after a divorce when he really needed the cash.
The guy that bought it didn't ride the damn thing once. It sat his driveway all summer under a cover.
I drove by twice a day (to and from work) and had to see it just sit there.

A man with priorities so out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine motorcycle.

It's a Ducati. That's what the vast majority of them are .
Seriously, look at it like this. Like any racehorse, it was ridden hard, and has now been put out to stud.

Being enjoyed is probably more the question then being ridden properly.

There are people at track day on $15k Ducatis being lapped by 500cc singles. I'd worry less about the old bike and more about the new bike. Good luck with the wedding also!
