After getting my comfort back on a bike and the set-up in the right direction, I was able to find the limit of these tires all too quickly and couldn't help but overheat them every single session out. It was beyond frustrating. Up until that point, they're great, and if you're comfortable running them there they are a very cost effective tire.
Feel like I'm headed toward the same scenario. I ran Rosso III's all last season but they'd get slippery as hell to the point where my sessions were only ten minutes.
Picked up a track bike with Q3's on it and lowsided on my 3rd lap of Loudon. Never got an opportunity to push the bike that day due to low temperature. The tires didn't give me the same feel as my Pirelli's though and definetly not as confidence inspiring. I'm sure DOT race tires will be a game changer.

In all honesty...if you've never used race tires, you're mind is going to be blown.
You're going to be riding at what was the limit of the street tires and not even be close to the race tires. I find it a lot of fun finding and learning the limit of a new tire. You're going to get to do it all over again potentially seconds faster a lap.

Re: where do y'all get your Pirellis?
What's the difference between SC2 and 1? Not sure what tire to get.. I'm on the street but I prefer as fast as possible on the track.

Compounds, SC1 is softer than an SC 2

Re: where do y'all get your Pirellis?
I rode on street tires all last year. Can't friggin wait to get back on good rubber. Took a lot of mental capacity to constantly remind myself to twist slower.

The first (and last) time I tried to get Pirellis from MTAG, Mr. Kurtz's exact paraphrased words were, "Go pound sand, Mattr302, I ain't got no Angel GT's!"
So I think I bought them from Motomummy.

Depends on the bike and conditions. It's backwards, but in cooler temps you want SC2s IIRC, bigger bike will demand harder, etc.
Edit: And if you need a 160 rear you don't get a vote. :D

this is a bit of an oversimplification... especially if you then try to reason that an SC1 works better in colder temps... or that an SC2 will last longer because it's "harder".
If you are just starting out on Pirelli's, MTAG can get you a recommended setup based on your details. However, with basically 4 combinations (SC1 or SC2 in front, and SC1 or SC2 in back) ... we do encourage people to try different setups. (while most people will not be able to tell the difference, some bikes and/or riders do have a preference)

So let me understand this, you want a tire for both street and track? Or just track? The Pirelli SC is a track only tire , for the most part. The Pirelli SP tire is both street and track, that tire is the one that comes on some of the Ducati super bikes. If you're looking to get a tire for both street and track, the SP might be a better choice.

Ya.. for both... I am leaning towards just doing track cuz I'm tired of the street but I don't want to make my f3 a dedicated track bike..
So if I end up selling it I think I'll go track only

Why can't you street ride an SC tire? ('Cause I do.)

Re: where do y'all get your Pirellis?
Im sure you can, the are dot tires but they wont last long if your a street rider.

Get a dedicated track bike only, with track only tires.
Cheaper in the long run. Significantly more fun riding without worrying about crashing your street ride. Especially when it's not a cheap steeet ride.

Some will argue that track rubber is too dangerous for street when cold

Re: where do y'all get your Pirellis?
Here's some info, some of which is contradictory to some other things said in this thread. Take everything(even what I say) you read on the internet with a grain of salt, I suppose. I'm not quoting people because I don't want to seem like I'm pointedly contradicting anyone. :P
The Diablo Supercorsa SP is an OEM equipped street tire, which shares only one thing with the Diablo Supercorsa SC; the appearance. It's not a bad tire, but it's not the same tire; it isn't meant to be. Consider it more like a Rosso Corsa than a Diablo Supercorsa.
Some people do warn against using race compound DOT race tires on the road, for both valid and invalid reasons. If your bike sees more road use than track use, a track compound tire isn't a good idea simply because you won't have the longevity that street riding requires. I put my first set of Pirelli race DOTs(Dragon Supercorsas at the time, from another Pirelli vendor) on my street R6 at a trackday in ~2009, and have used race takeoffs since for thousands of miles including commuting, weekend trips, and "spirited" riding with friends. As a guy with a tire machine and a steady supply of takeoffs passing through my hands, longevity hasn't been a factor. If it were, I'd use a sport touring tire, since the R6 doesn't see any track use anymore. However, the idea that you'll have traction issues with them because they aren't up to temp doesn't hold water. I'll confidently say that Ken Condon rides faster and with more lean angle on lap one at any given trackday than I do on the first 5 minutes of any street ride. (note that this applies only to Pirelli; I won't speak to other brands race tires performance; I do know some are notoriously difficult to ride when anything less than scalding hot).
Heat cycling is not a factor, in most(if not all) modern race tires. Modern tire materials just aren't as susceptible to that as they used to be. The amount of tread rubber left is the marker for how much useful time a tire has. The less rubber, the less heat, the less grip. This is why the fastest club racers are only doing 1-2 races on a tire, but they can ofetn hand those off to slower riders or even use them for practice; NOT because of heat cycling.
The 160 Supercorsa does come in both SC1 and SC2; the Superbike does not...so you don't get a vote on only the slick. :D
As for compounds, generally speaking for the front tire, you want the SC2("harder") in the hottest temps, while in the rear you want the SC1("softer") in the hottest temps. Yes, it sounds backwards. Our fastest expert races almost exclusively use the SC1 rear tire, and are split about 50/50 on preference for the front compound. It's not as easy as "the SC2 is harder so it lasts longer." For the bulk of our season, we have moderate enough temps that any compound will work for trackday use with almost no difference in performance or feel.
I know we've talk mainly about the Diablo Supercorsa SC V2 tire in this thread, but there are two other options for trackday use. The previous generation Diablo Supercorsa SC V1 tire is still in current production, and offers slightly less ultimate performance at the pointy edge for a lower price point. Not a bad option for a trackday rider who is price conscious, be it due to pace, or longevity concerns(when used for both street and track). Also, if slicks are an option for a dedicated trackbike, there is an SC3 compound Diablo Superbike slick designed specifically for trackday riders and endurance racing. It's made to last longer at the expense of that ultimate performance point, and is also priced lower than the full-on race slicks.

Re: where do y'all get your Pirellis?
Another data point here. I tend to run my rear pressure higher that wht tony has posted. If i start below 28 cold i tear it up too fast. So i start at 30 and drop them to 30 hot. I find the upper limit to be 35 hot. That's where traction starts to suffer. I get better life and feel right at 32 hot.
