    Yamaha EXUP valve question

Anyone on this board a genuine meknic that KNOWS the FZR1000 EXUP valve and exup servo motor ? Someone gots to know the answer to this question.

    Question =

If the exup valve SERVO motor is removed AND disconnected from the CDI brains box.....WILL that RETARD the timing of the motor?

I'm not in a position to put a timing light on the motor etc or I would have already tried experimenting for myself.

    Thanks for any clues.

    Yamaha EXUP valve question

I don't know about the FZR but on the 98 R1 i had, it did
If you're removing the EXUP system, you can just unhook the cables from the servo and leave it there. That's what i did to my 98 R1 when i put a full system on and it worked fine

    Yamaha EXUP valve question

Hey John found this for the R1

Yamaha R1 EXUP Motor Replacement Module
The JBRacing R1 EXUP Motor Replacement Module is a simple plug in and go modification to be used only when the standard Yamaha exhaust system is replaced with any aftermarket full or part system which requires the removal of the EXUP valve.

If the EXUP servo motor is also removed, without any other modification, the R1 ECU will display a fault code on the bike’s tachometer every few seconds. Not only is this very annoying, it may also prevent the bike from operating at full potential because the ECU knows that the EXUP valve is not functioning correctly.

To overcome this it is quite normal for R1 owners to simply allow the EXUP servo motor to hang behind the cylinder block whizzing away. This may damage the bike and retains a lot of unnecessary weight.

The JBRacing R1 EXUP Motor Replacement Module emulates exactly the characteristics of the EXUP motor and prevents the fault codes and any possible restriction to the ignition mapping. This is achieved using no moving parts at all by utilising solid-state devices and digital technology. The module allows the ECU to believe that a) it is powering the EXUP motor in the normal way and b) think that it is monitoring the valve’s position correctly at all times. This happens at power up when the ECU normally tests the EXUP valve and, more importantly, during normal riding conditions or when racing.

When the ignition is turned off, the standard EXUP valve may stay open at any position. The valve is corrected when the ignition is turned on again and the ECU runs through it’s check routines. This operation is also fully emulated by the JBRacing module, which will store the last EXUP valve position in non-volatile RAM until the ignition is turned on again.

    Yamaha EXUP valve question

I have a Yamaha shop manual for my FZR1000. I will look at it, tonight to see if that manual has an answer fro ya. I have a slip-on pipe because I was told shortly after I got the bike that the EXUP is not to be removed or modified.
