The only way you're gonna get that in an adventure bike is via a boutique brand, ala KTM or Ducati. The Explorer is not gonna give you that, and nothing from BMW has that. So you're looking at a KTM 1190/1290 or a Multistrada Enduro.
In all cases, HP/lb should be calculated loaded. The differences end up being a lot different (or even reversed) from what you cite.

For example, if we assume 200 lbs of rider, gear, and gasoline:
    Tiger 800 - 95HP @ 680lb = 0.140 HP/lb
    Super Tenere - 110HP @ 775lb = 0.142 HP/lb
That's still close, but the S10 has slightly more, rather than slightly less.

    Then:
    149HP @ 800lb = 0.186 HP/lb
Which is about a third more, rather than just 1/4 more -- an even bigger difference.

Ok mathematically yes, you're correct. However the point I was trying to convey is that the Tiger and the S10 have nearly the same power to weight ratio that it makes little sense to favor the S10 if the power of the Tiger is too meager, and that the power to weight he's looking for is only going to be found in exotic adventure bikes.

That 0.002 HP/lb difference pretty much amounts to pushing the bike with your feet while moving. Super helpful, and completely insignificant.

I always though it was hp per lb was the calc
in that case the numbers are:

    7.1 tiger
    7.0 S10
    5.3 VFR

The numbers you listed are lbs per hp, lbs/hp. In this case, lower numbers are better.

The numbers Phil listed are hp per lb, hp/lb. Higher numbers better for this.

Two different ways of comparing the same thing

You should just get a VFR1200X, or just throw some TKC80's on Shamu and go blast down some dirt roads, like this guy Honda VFR800 GS Adventureceptor - knobbies on a street bike! | Adventure Rider
