    MAY 28th Ride then Cookout!!

From the moment I pulled up to the meeting spot in Nashua, I knew that I wasn't going to ride with at least a few of the people that showed up. As soon as I turned the key off on the bike, all I could hear was laughing from the guys wearing shorts, and right away, I knew they were laughing at me because I was wearing full leather.

Also, about a minute after arriving, I realized that I knew one of the Busa guys from the gym, Chris. When I used to see him there (at the gym) on a regular basis, he would always tell me stories of how he and his buddies would always do triple digit rides to the beach with no gear, and I don't do that kind of riding, so this was also a factor in my decision to not ride with the rest of the group.

Mike was very cool about how he approached the small handful of guys in shorts to say that he makes it a point to stay away from group rides where people aren't wearing adequate gear. But one of the guys (Chris) got very defensive and had quite an attitude about what Mike said. Chris' response was quite combative, and I half expected the disagreement to turn physical based on the tone of his voice and what was said to Mike. Chris seemed to get quite angry and took Mike's statement as a suggestion that he was a poor rider, when that clearly was not what Mike was trying to say.

They could have been great guys to ride with, but my taste for them was soured from the get-go because of their obvious disrespect and their lack of understanding of other people's ideals pertaining to riding.

I will say that it was my idea to keep riding past the gas station that you guys were pulling into. I believe nothing good would have come of us pulling in with you guys. It likely would have turned into a big argument resulting in, at the very least, a few pissed off riders, and at most, a physical altercation based on the apparent egos that were displayed at the meeting spot in Nashua from the guys wearing beach attire.

For the record, I would have loved to ride with all of you except the two on the Busas. I could tell based on their remarks and actions in Nashua that I would have had a terrible time on the ride if we stuck with the big group. Everyone else seemed very cool, and I apologize for making the decision to not tell the rest of you that we were not comfortable riding with a select few in your group, but I thought that the argument in Nashua was loud enough for everyone in the group to have heard, so I figured that everyone understood that we would break away at some point.

I don't do group rides to have gear/no-gear arguments and listen to ego trips. I ride to meet cool new people and to get out for the day on some nice roads.
nice tim, sums it up perfectly.

i figured as soon as i said somthing about not riding with people that don't gear up atleast a little i'd be squaring off with somebody. as tim said it could have got ugly but i bit my tounge said what i said and left it at that.

i do/did feel like a dick for bailing on the group at the gas station but as others have pointed out what good would have come of it.

the day turned out pretty good despite traffic. awesome to meet rob (again) oxx and amanda. tim as always good times

I will say right up front I've never done a track day, and I would have thought the bungholes on Busas with shorts and sandals were idiots too. :

i went on the ride and had a GREAT time.

not a big deal that part of the group split off from us, that was their decision and can respect that. I dont agree on riding with no helmet, shorts, and sandles for an all day ride, but to each their own.

this was my first group ride, and i have to say i really enjoyed it. there were times when it was a little slow because of traffic, but that happens. some really great twisties! i only started riding last august,so not alot of riding behind me. but this ride definatly has me more comfortable in the turns.

NinjaSwan is a super great guy! thanks for putting this together and having us over your house. Food was MMMMM. thank you again.

i know we'll be riding together again soon.

here is a perfect example (PLEASE DONT GET OFFENDED BY THIS SUZUKIGRL!!!)

lets say youre the "greatest rider in the world". very cautious, comforatable with wearing sandals while you ride and no helmet etc.. youre out on a group ride and someone who hasnt been doing this very long gets into a corner too hot or fails to look into a corner far enough to see that sand in the road, and loses the front and takes you out in the process. now youre missing a few toenails, taking one of them inexpensive ambulance rides, getting stiches in that elbow and they scrubbing the gravel out of your knee and putting those cool stapes in your head. BUT... the person who crashed , got up, brushed themselves off picked up their bike and maybe got to finish the ride because they were wearing gear. doesnt seem fair.

shorts and t shirts... we are ALL guilty of it. HELL.. i wore shorts today to a cookout. gloves, helmet, and jacket too though. YES.. i race. but that isnt why i wear the gear i wear when i go for a "RIDE". ive crashed at 90.. ive crashed at 10 in a parking lot when someone turn in front of me. it all hurts. i dont wear a helmet because im paranoid or over cautious. its because my dad told me a story when i was younger andif he hadnt been wearing a helmet he most likely wouldnt be here right now. if something horrible happened to me and i was wearing the proper attire.. im sure my parents could handle it a little better than if i wasnt. why? because i know better

this is debate that will probably never end.. i guess i see it as this... if you want to ride with NESR folk then dress for it. we are a "black tie affair" if you will. was i hot all day? FUCK YEAH!!! did i feel safe? FUCK YEAH!! did i have good time? FUCK YEAH!!
something was said at Ruby's though it may not have been clear how many werent gonna ride in the end everyone had fun wherever they were. again i hope no one gets offended by any of this or doesnt want to ride with us because of this. we all just want to have fun.. bottom line

Best things is we could watch it drip as we were taking the Pictures, I am suprised that bike had any oil to make it to the diner. Also it is a good thing harleys can't turn, that would be dangerouse all over that back tire running down the road

    MAY 28th Ride then Cookout!!

Just go tthe first chance to read the posts both good and bad about our ride on Sunday. All in all it was a good time and the folks that were there are pretty good folk. It was a nice long ride good roads.

Ok now for me rant, I have no problem with people who ride with no gear, whatever! And for those who decided to leave, maybe I'll catch up with later on another ride.

My issue with the leaders of the ride FUCKING off and doing shit that you shouldn't do. Wheelies and shit! Honestly if it came to the point where one of them had gone down while doing hta t shit in a group ride, I would have left you bloodied ass ride there on the rode! It is not just yourself you are causing a danger to. It is me as well and if you can't respect the fact that there are other human beings with you. Then you don't deserve my respect!

Having the foresight that something like this would likely happen in the big group is exactly one of the reasons that we chose to break off and ride in a smaller group.

I'm trying desperately not to stereotype, but its pretty much a given that anyone on a Busa dressed like they are ready for the beach is much more likely to fuck around on a group ride, putting everyone in the group in danger and attracting a lot of bad attention from the caging public and PoPo that were out in force for the holiday weekend.

This is one of the big drawbacks to organizing a big group ride, because inevitably you will attract at least one rider that will not follow the group ride rules and endanger themselves and the others in the group.

I can't say that I would have had the foresight about what they were going to do and how they are going to ride by what they wear when riding, but I can respect your decision to break off.
Hope you guys had a good ride, maybe we meet up at some time and ride.

To the folks that can't understand why those with gear have such a problem with those without it, I will try to make this simple...

It's not about gear or no gear, its about doing anything you possibly can and everything in your power to promote the best possible outcome from a situation. We all realize there are risks to riding a bike, it doesen't make you a hero to wear less gear - it just means your a jackass.
I also personally like riding with like-minded individuals who have at least understand the concepts of safety, or at least those who have the same general mindset as I do on it and riding. The actions of these people in tight situations (should they arise) is usually more akin to my own - another plus while trying to avoid failure.
When you dress like your at a tanning salon while you choose to ride a streetbike, thats just telling me you don't care about your wellbeing. Your style is more important then your co2 generation.
If you don't care thats great, but I'm not going to let you be a burden on my ride when you tuck/drop/flip it at 50+ mph and I have to watch you lose weight the hard way cause you didn't think you needed gear.

No just because you don't care to wear gear doesn't mean that you are going to ride like a jerk and to assume that or to have the foresight, is stereotypical.
I'll give anyone a chance to show me they are an asshole and then I won't ride with them. Just because you have gear on doesn't make you more repsonsible to me, the first time I meet you.

So the issue to me is NOT the lack of gear, it is the LACK of respect to other riders, by stunting in a group ride.

Let me ask you a question. If you are up at the beach, crusing the strip at low speed because of traffic and you don't have gear on because it's hot your not going fast and there is traffic, are you an ass? Should I assume that you would do wheelies and go excessively fast in a group ride or do I think your a pretty cool guy and or girl who loves to ride like I do?

Remember it is not what you wear have the time it is what you so, that imposes the impression.
