    MAY 28th Ride then Cookout!!

yes, but do you have the gear with you to put back on for the highway trip back home? or do you just not bring it because it will be hot on the 3 mile portion of your 100+ mile trip? it is all point of view, i really hope nobody has taken offense to anything about gear, if you wear it great if not then chances are some of the people that take extra precautions will avoid riding with you. Een the most responsible rider can hit a patch of sand in the twisties and i think a lot of us forget about that when it gets hot out. Gear can some off a lot less painfully than skin, wear it and if you do have to go ride the strip at hampton at 5 MP/H then take it off for that strip, there is a lot that can happen on the rest of the ride

I'll give anyone a chance to show me they are an asshole and then I won't ride with them. Just because you have gear on doesn't make you more repsonsible to me, the first time I meet you.

So the issue to me is NOT the lack of gear, it is the LACK of respect to other riders, by stunting in a group ride.

Let me ask you a question. If you are up at the beach, crusing the strip at low speed because of traffic and you don't have gear on because it's hot your not going fast and there is traffic, are you an ass? Should I assume that you would do wheelies and go excessively fast in a group ride or do I think your a pretty cool guy and or girl who loves to ride like I do?

Remember it is not what you wear have the time it is what you so, that imposes the impression.
Well your point is valid there, but not applicable in this situation... were you guys meeting at the beach, to ride up and down the strip, or were you meeting at Ruby Tuesdays to go for some twisty action in the mountains?

I don't put gear on to move my bike around my yard, nor do I climb in the cow for a ride to go get icecream ~3 miles away, shit man - I commute in jeans and workboots sometimes...but I don't show up for an organized group ride in anything less then full leathers.

These persons, in this situation, dressed like they were at a bike show, not a ride...so it's not really stereotyping...it's jackassedom in the scenario it was presented in, and I wouldn't ride with them either.

Discussing gear or no gear on this site is a lost cause as has been stated, if you want to consider those who insist on proper gear for the proper application as hoity-toity prudish sterotyping assholes then so be it.

But if that is the view, then your missing the point of the 'argument' which really isn't an argument at all - most of us only waste our breath in these discussions with the meek hope that someone out there watching will get a light bulb in their head and possibly adopt the same principles for their own self preservation.

I didn't always ride in leathers, but I did have a keen ear for some individuals more senior then myself in the sport who obviously knew something that I didn't, and I listened to what they had to say.

We all know nesr is sorta the tighly wound safety nazi group anyways, if you want a laid back younger gear or not sorta riding group sportriders.com is the place for you

ok, so you missed the point of what I was saying, I ride with gear but I am not going to judge someone who doesn't.

I know my typing isn't the best but I thought I was pretty clear on my opinion.

    Swan here.

YOOO!! Haaa. So i just havent been online to post since friday. Then it took me a good hour or two to read the posts.

So yeah, I had a great time regardless of the spilt. We have all summer to ride... I wasnt expecting for Peter and Chris to show up in fukin sandals and to take over the lead. It was my first group ride so I didnt know what to expect. I was just sitting back more to learn the odds and ends of group riding.

No hard feeling with me and the people that split, would have been nice for you to let one of us know that you were spilting but then again it was probably for the best since Chris and Pete were a little hot headed. I dont think anybody wanted to argue again.

Apperntly I missed the argument right before I showed up to Ruby's, I apologize on behalf of them and for the record they're off my list. As for anything done for the first time, Trial and Error. Gotta weed out the rejects on the assembly line to end up with good product.

BBQ was good. I only had three people from the ride and then some of my friends showed up later. We just kicked back and watched Grandmas boy and ate some steak. "Yeah but Dude, It's a sweet car." fukin hilarious movie.

So back to the ride, No hard Feelings with me. This site is a great community and I've already learned a lot thanks to you all so you can expect me to be sticking around!!

I'm all for protection when riding. I could care less what someone else is wearing unless I know it's going to be an issue. As for the wheelies on the group ride, thats a big Fuck No. On your on time bitches. That did piss me off.

Keep your eyes open for me tonight. I wasnt going to go to lowell but I think i'll say forget the chores and make my way down there.

Thanks again for everyone that showed up. Sorry it went the way it did. Next time will only be better.

no offense to anyone, but i'm surprised the NESR regulars that attended didn't see this coming. too many "unknowns" in an instance like this.

also to people who say don't think it's big deal if someone else chooses not to wear gear - i'm sure they'd be singing a different tune after someone eats pavement with no helmet or gear. ruins everyones day.. not just the squid's.

As cruel as it sounds, it wouldn't bother me in the least.

I AM responsible for MY decision and THEY Are responsible for THIERS.

I ride with gear because I choose to. Make up your own mind is all you have to do.

i think you misunderstood. what i meant to say was that it ruins the ride for everyone. the ride does not continue when someone without gear goes down hard.. at least not right away. wearing a helmet and proper gear will reduce the chances of getting fucked up from a crash thus not causing a major inconvenience for everyone riding with you.

were we supposed to be impressed with that statement? i don't get that mentality. i don't care if you've had a hundred bikes and have rode 1 million miles it still doesn't make you accident proof.

That is one reason a lot of people will not post group rides. THey will PM a small list and set it up...This did make for some good reading though
Swan when is the next one?

Capt, i completely get your point, however Strangeguy is 110% right. I'll be the first to admit, as I already did, that i've ridden in t-shirt, shorts & flipflops and will do it again - BUT IT'S THE CONTEXT IN WHICH I AM RIDING that make it acceptable to others.

Bottom line - they showed up to a group ride, planning on hitting the twisties wearing unacceptable attire.

I would have been in my leathers, no question, and the only leathers i have with me at the moment are my 1pc race leathers... but i woulda been in those. If i wasn't in those, at the very least i'd be in my boots, heavy duty jeans, multiple long sleeved t-shirts, helmet and my race gloves.

It's not what you wear, it's the context in which you wear it. These guys were wearing the wrong stuff for the context. You don't show up for a baseball game w/o a glove, a ball and a bat, you don't show up for a group ride in the mtn's wearing shorts t-shirt & sandals.

As for waiting for someone to prove to me they're an ass instead of assuming they're an ass... That's all well & good, but i'll be in the back of the pack where I can see EVERYONE and give them PLENTY of room before I decide who's a mennace to themselves, myself and others and who's not. Cuz it only takes one time for you to "presume innocent untill they prove themselves guilty" and get taken out in a corner cuz the "innocent" guy behind you came barreling into the turn, couldn't make it and slamed into the back of you.

    no thanks...

No offense, but have you seen someone in your group have a serious crash first-hand? Seen someone have a seizure while they were waiting for the ambulance? Pass out when the saw the blood coming from their own compound fracture? Not trying to beat you up over this (seriously, I'm not), but I find it hard to believe anyone would be able to say "fuck it, let's ride."
That type of shit can change your whole outlook on riding.

exactly... even when they're wearing gear, if someone goes down the whole ride has a different tone to it, IF it continues.

you're absolutely right... they should have known better

Take for instance Chris Sedition's get off from last year (Sorry Chris )... I missed that group ride by about 5 minutes, but here's what I do know. He was wearing proper gear when he had his "unexpected dismount", but from what I heard, the ride pretty much stopped in it's tracks because of his injury... Yeah... he should have known better.... that's it Gear does NOT make you invincible.

If someone... ANYONE gets hurt on a ride, it affects every single other person in the group whether or not you know the person, whether or not they're geared up properly, whether or not they're badly injured. It's NOT something you can easily brush off.

eh? I thought it was QUIET the opposite....SRNE is all about wearing your gear also and the crowd is not so young...bunch of old farts. (including myself, I'm 33)

I think you're confusing SRNE with another sportbike website...

    Not taking as a beating.
As I said before as cruel as it may sound, if you are doing something stupid and cause yourself trouble I would have no remorse.
If you think that or if anyone thinks that I am a lesser person because I can turn off my emotions because of something like that then (shuging shoulders) I guess Iam a bad person. I just hate stupid people.
If the situation was different then I would be and act different.
But I always try to keep in the back of mind the danger and what can happen when riding.

Your absolutely right, the feeling of the posts were that I should or some people will judge you as a jerk rider, because of what you are wearing. we had 5 people split from the ride even before it began because the made the assumption that the folks in sandals, ts and shorts were jerk rides. (they were right) But I was stating that I am not going to make that desicion about what type of rider you just because of the clothes you are wearing.
I'lll wait to see how you ride. And they rode like jerks.

it's a great conversation, let's everyone get thier thoughts and opinion out without arguing.

Basically we all have the same view about gear, right place right time.
