Talking LONG VT RIDE SAT4th Date confirmed

    Saturday

    Long / fast pace
This is a full gear ride and plan on little stops, gas and lunch.

Hit mid VT and high tail it around the state getting us back probably late.
    Experienced riders wanted to join

Leaving EARLY, that means being in WMA by 8a.m.

Any one into really having a long day, I am willing to leave earlier and make a real day of it.....

Vermont police are writing tickets for 1 mph over at this time .

    WATERBURY, Vt. -

The first week of Operation Summer HEAT produced a pile of speeding tickets.

Last week, Vermont State police put what they call High Enforcement Area Teams into action patrolling for speeders in places around the state. The effort was spurred by a dramatic rise in highway fatalities in the first six months of this year.

During the first five days of the HEAT program there were no traffic deaths in Vermont. Police did issue 859 speeding tickets and arrested 26 drunk drivers

I've ridden in lower Vermont for the last ten years and have yet to see any rise in police so maybe it's mostly northern Vermont?????

I think it is all of VT. However, I've seen a handful of LEOs and only one car I've seen has been pulled... I believe it is because the girl driving was tailgating the state trooper.

The starting point is near an hour away for me. That may be a tad bit early to get out of bed on a Sunday. My buddy and I could potentially meet you in VT when you stop for lunch. Then rip it up for a bit before we break off. Let me know where you plan to go and Ill see if we cant conjoin for a while. If not, no worries.

Less traffic, cooler temps, fewer LEO's... getting up early is worth it.

You don't happen to have a trailer do you? We could then take our bikes out the night before like I did last time.

You Sir know nothing of true greatness. I of course refer to ones ability to steal, drink and generally do nothing, and carry it off with style

The governor put the kibosh on that, actually. Said that was unreasonable, and troopers should use their discretion.

Nope; no noticeable increase up here in northwestern Vermont either. I see state troopers out occasionally, but not really any more than before, and they don't seem to be pulling people over any more than usual.

Yeah, I've begun to think that this HEAT thing is more of a publicity tactic than anything else. I still wouldn't push my luck by consistently riding 20+ over the limit, but traffic on I-89 is consistently moving at 75-80mph during my commute to/from work, and even when there are troopers present they just sit there.

Ironically, the reason they started this up in the first place was because of the high number of road deaths so far this year (42 when this program was announced). They even put up electronic signs on the sides of I-89 announcing this... and over the past few weeks this program has been in effect, I've watched that number climb to 48. I guess it's not working...

we will mozy o over to W. MA and make our way up into NY and VT. I was actaully thinking that we could do a real long scenic ride, leave earlier and hit some new stuff plus some old er stuff? Not sure yet, guess it depends on what kind of people confirm and how long thier asses can handle it.

I want a long fun ride and enjoy finding a few new ones

Well I'm asking because if you come near mid VT I'd love to track you guys down and join the fun for a few hours. I'd definitely be in. I prefer the 4th.

My buddy wants to go ride out here with me, so if we do it Sunday, and one of the WMC guys has room for 2 to sleep *cough Jeff*, than a Uhaul trailer is only like $30 to rent for 2 days.

Damn, why do I always have to work on days with group rides...

VT graduated a State Police Academy recently. So a lot of new officers out and about.
