    Welcome to the forum
What if you have a lot of gear?

I've got a bunch of helmets, couple jackets, two pairs of gloves, boots etc, plus two 1pc suits.... I can't wear all my gear all the time. Even if I could get it all on, I'd just look silly & wouldn't be able to move

And to think, all this time I've just been showing up to group rides wearing one helmet, one jacket, one pair of gloves, one pair of boots & one pair of long pants... no one's ever said a thing! They must not know I have more gear back home.

last (and only so far) ride I went on with NESR people consisted of everyone having gloves, helmet, above ankle boots, and jacket. And one person in a one piece suit. I was freezing on half the ride and the way home so I envied him. As pace goes I took it slower in teh back of the pack and they ripped it up a bit more. I had never ridden the street and there was still some sand out.

get a 275 gallon "tote" that should last at least one riding season.

And on topic, I've shown up to rides in full gear where others only did helmet coat and gloves. I didn't take any flaq, it was a hotter than hell day and the only thing people said to me was "must suck in full leather"...but really it doesn't bother my legs. My feet will sweat but not my legs.

And regardless of how hot it is, I always have a hot weather base layer under the leather

As for the OP... yeah, what all these guys are saying. Wear sensible gear that you feel comfortable in. If that's one-piece leathers, great, and if it's jacket and jeans, fine, although personally I'd recommend the jeans at least be Draggin' Jeans or equivalent.

Personally I wear Carhartt work pants and leather jacket for the three-mile ride to work, but any time I head out for a longer ride, I wear better gear. At least a pair of leather jeans-style pants and jacket; if I'm going to be attacking twisties, I'll usually wear my two-piece leather suit.

You can even go the extra mile with some hot St. Marks Place special shaded sunglasses. Always wear gear no matter what the douchey squids say! (And I have non-douchey squid friends too.)

Was that personal experience watching me slide 100 feet on my ass with full leather gear on?

Yes it was, in addition to my crash a couple years ago that would have FUCKED me up without my leathers.

I can get you a trackday for much cheaper than $200.

Full face helmit tinted shield and a clear shield if the ride goes late, leather suit (One or two piece), boots over the ankle, Leather gloves. Also a full tank of gas before the ride. Welcome and hope to ride with you sometime this year.

You shouldn't wear full gear just on group rides. Crashes happen at any time. I crashed on my way home from work. You just never know. If your comfy in full 1pc wear it. Who cares what others think. Forget about peer pressure, if your buddy said not to wear a seatbelt, would you?

i wonder if group rides where the majority are in full leathers will draw negative attention. like local police thinking that the group is out riding looking to drag knee.

I think protective gear is always a good idea, but don't let some gear nazi give you shit for wearing jeans.

I wonder what people think when they see a group of riders not wearing any or much protection. (Organ Doner perhaps?)

My question to you is, how are you going to afford hospital and/ or vehicle replacement bills when you eat shit into a ravine/ vehicle/ tree/ rock/ telephone pole/ mailbox/ pedestrian/ sidwalk? Last I checked there weren't any safety provisions on a public thruway and "The Road" (you know which one) offers damn-near everything that can hurt you and nothing that will save you.....not even your 520 conversion.

All that in itself was enough to get me to the track and I don't regret it at all. A couple hundred bux seems pale in comparision to the many thousands being risked......all IMHO, of course.

If i know I am going to be out for more then an hour

If not i just wear a jacket, gloves, helmet, and my boots.
I realize the consequences of wearing jeans on the street, and are willing to live with them.

As crazy as this sounds, I bet it's the complete opposite of the reality of wearing gear.

I'm gonna guess that the general public sees a rider wearing full gear as a trouble-maker of sorts because, much like those silly cruiser folks and squids think, if you're not going fast then you'll never crash and since they're never gonna crash they don't need gear.

Re: Appropriate Gear for a meet up n ride??

Thanks guys for all the replies.

I'm not so much worried about the fashion police as i am about the pavement, oncoming car, driver with a cell phone, road hazard.

I figured if I had the suit maybe I should wear it. it would break it in quicker, and it would really suck to go down n have the thing sitting in the closet.

I was just wondering if being new and showing up like that to a ride would have make me look like a complete tool, or a squid (still not sure exactly what that means but i'm getting the idea).

i was also wondering what smart riders use to protect their legs. T shirt n shorts crown need not answer.
