Boston to Bar Harbor/Maine route suggestions?

I am heading up to Maine from Boston in August to go to a buddy's wedding, and am looking for some route suggestions for the ride up, I think it is about 5 hours. Any fun roads worth checking out to get up there? I will be there for the weekend, and was thinking about staying in Ellsworth, as it looks like less of a tourist trap than Bar Harbor, and hotel suggestions for the area?

Any rides suggested in that area? I'd like to get some riding in on the morning before the wedding, and the Sunday after before I head back down to Boston...

Rt. 9 runs from Augusta to Eastport,but it's not exactly on your way.... it's very desolate & has a bunch of high speed sweepers & hardly any driveways, stoplights or LEO's.... look out for the porcupines & moose though.......& make sure you do the speed limit when going thru the lil towns.
Then you can run rt. 1 back from Eastport to Bar harbor..........another desolate, but scienic, motorcycling road.
Eastport is the most eastern point in the U.S. & is very nice, if you go, make sure to ride to the ferrylanding & check out the caves, during lowtide you can explore em.

I will have to admit I live in Portland, Maine and don't know any good roads on the way up to Bar Harbor, but if you want some company for part of it, let me know. What day are you heading up?

I made that trip last year from RI, google maps said it would take approx. 6 hours, it ended up being over 8 hrs and that was all highway with little traffic and I definately wasn't obeying the speed limit.

As far as good roads, most of roads on Mt. Desert Island seemed enjoyable. The roads up/around Cadillac Mtn. were particular fun.

I went up there last year for my cousins wedding. I slabbed it the whole way up. Once I got there and got rid of my backpack I turned the GPS off and just rode. After about 3 or so hours I turned the GPS back on, entered the address of the hotel and followed the directions home. I had so much fun on this solo ride, just listening to the ipod getting lost that I hope to do it again soon.

Oh yea I got lucky that night too!!!

Fast forward to the morning after the wedding I was trying not to puke in my helmet for 5 hours in 90 degree heat in my gear. That was my roughest ride ever.

Still looking for a tail bag, as I don't think the dress I'm wearing to the wedding will be that comfy for the ride up
