Curtis Ribs or Ben and Jerry's?

Last winter, when the Seacoast Ride Schedule was first posted, Kenn mentioned Ben and Jerry's! It's been several years since we headed to Waterbury! So, I thought I'd put it out there and see if we want to head there on July 19th!

ribs are much better than ice cream! though it's a close second. you should do them both, grab lunch... then dessert.

    Curtis. The ribs are great.

Ben and Jerry's used to be great, but now they're a corporate subsidiary of Unilever, and there are hundreds of local ice cream stands in New England with better ice cream.

I am kind of with Phil.. but then I don't think Curtis' is that great bbq either. It's okay. And I've done that ride with you twice now. I've never been to B&J's.

(I am the "I don't care" vote by the way. I can go either way.)

Re: Curtis Ribs or Ben and Jerry's?

I would suggest Top of the Hill Grill in Brattleboro instead of Curtis. Better food all around. We've gone both places for the Bennington Triumph Bash Friday night BBQ dinner, and Top of the Hill has been by far the more popular destination.

We've done Top of The Hill. I thought it was good but for some reason I prefer Curtis Ribs...

If a Rib ride wins out I could do another survey for which one...

Ever been to Back Behind BBQ in Killington? Right at the junction of 100 & 4.

I was at Curtis Ribs last weekend. Watched this poor girl roll in on a Monster with her boyfriend on his Hyper and tip it over in the parking lot.

    That sounds interesting!

If people are tired of Curtis', the King Arthur plant in Norwich has a killer cafe. Could be a lunch destination with an option to continue to B&Js.

If you guys do that, let me know and I'll gather up a few of the Vermont contingent to ride down and meet you guys there, then ride with you to B&Js.

The coveted Heady Topper... That seals the deal for me!
A ride to Waterbury would be nice just to change things up a little.

B&J's Since I did mention it.

Or anywhere in that neck of the woods. It'll be a 400+ mile ride for the day!

B&J's was an EPIC ride, but a lousy destination.

Live to ride, ride to eat!

Any rib joints near B&J's? That'd get my vote.

Depending on your route, you could take a quick ride over rt17.

No point. It's in appalling condition. Not worth riding anymore except to get from Waitsfield to Bristol or vice versa. Until they repave it, it's useless as a sportbike road.

Rt 125 is nice though, and the twistiest section just got repaved a couple of years ago.

Is it still bad? Rode it last fall and it was cracked and some bumps but nothing I couldn't deal with.

Yes 125 is a nice ride.

FWIW they don't sell Heady Topper from the brewery any more. You can get it at a variety of other stores though so you aren't required to visit Waterbury to get it.

Though you're unlikely to find it anywhere south of Montpelier.

It's much worse than it was last fall. Some of the bumps caused by frost heaves will settle, so by this fall it'll be a little better again, but there will still be lots of bumps (including one really nasty one right where you want to be braking on corner entry when heading westbound), and some of the cracks are wide enough to swallow a front tire.

Can it be ridden? Of course. Can it be ridden at the peg-scraping pace that people used to session it 7 or 8 years ago? No way. That's why I was saying that it's really only worth riding to get from point A to point B, not as a destination in itself.

There is an apple cider mill in waterbury center, cold hollow cider mill, on the right that offers free apple cider almost hot out of the apple press. A couple miles from B&J's on rt100 North or east, whichever it is.

Well, given the results of the poll, this looks like a winner! I'll look into this cafe and see if I can plot an interesting route....!
