Need help with VT roads for out of staters

There are riders coming in from neighboring states (CT, NH, etc.) for the Sept. 13 sport bike event and I wanted to provide directions on the website. I also wanted to list some good riding roads and which to avoid (such as Route 125) so people from out of state can choose some nicer rides either in and/or out of Vermont for the event.

If people could let me know what they think of some of the different routes, if they would be considered good roads to ride or roads to avoid that would be great. I'm updating the site tonight...

    Thanks!!!

From the Killington area, I think Rt 100 to Rt 17 to Rt 116 to S. Brownell Rd. may be the best non-slab approach to Williston; I think that may work even as far as the Massachusetts border (i.e. 100 all the way). Most of 100 is in decent or better shape, and 17 is usually good except for the sand trap on the way down toward Bristol.

Other people might have better ideas for further south, but I'm pretty sure that from this area north, that's the best non-slab route (89 is obviously quicker and more direct, but it's also fairly boring).

Bellows Falls -> take RT 103 N-> Right on RT 11 N ->Reading Vt, take a Lt onto Tyson Rd-> RT100 N (which will be a Rt) to Waitsfield VT -> Lt onto RT17...then you can take a variety of ways into B-town...google map that ish!

    Cool!

Hey, is 116 still being worked on? I heard part of the road was torn up as of Tuesday.

The VTrans site doesn't indicate any construction north of 17, only the one-lane bridge further south. They should have info on construction on any state routes posted there.

17 is in good shape now. The sand has been removed from the corners.

i do 116 everyday to work. they haven't done anything to it south of hindsburg, but north of hindsburg there is about an 11 mile stretch, most of it already fresh paved, (since tuesday) the rest of it will be soon. but if you are 116 out of hindsburg, about 3-4 miles north, take a right onto 2A. isn't anything thrilling, but it'll take you right to williston. go under the overpass, and the next big intersection, take a left. circuit city is on the left, not too far down the hill. you'll see it!

Just because it's sand-free today, doesn't mean it will be tomorrow. Regards, Jake

I agree 100% on that. It is how ever a lot better than it has been for the past 3 or 4 weeks.

I second this run. Or stay on 106 and go up through Woodstock and link up with 89 again through Queechee

Awesome, thanks! I'll put some notes on the directions page.

I just found out that the bridge in Richmond is closed for a few weeks. I go that way a lot. Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone else goes that way too.

yeah, i found that out the other night at about 1:30 AM coming back from jeffersonville. you have to go east on rt 2 about 3-5 miles, take a right, then back track ALL the way back. kinda pissed me off! but hey, maybe they are FINALLY fixing that POS bridge... hopefully.

+1, thats not a bad ride either...

If you are coming from CT or Western Mass, takin 100N from Wilmington, though a bit on the long side (4ish hrs to B-Town) is awesome, especially this time of year.
