Snowborder suggested this and I thought it to be a great idea. He may have some suggestions for hotels with secure garages.

Anyone that has been there knows what a great city this is.

Open to suggestions on dates... Spring is a hit or miss with the weather, June is race and jass festival month.

This may be a good time to go... it is absolutely crazy and it would be a good idea to book rooms early, escpecially if we wanted one with a secure garage!

    Montreal Jazz Festival 6/27-7/7.

As a side note of interest for JC and Stoneman... http://www.qzone.ca/neweb/index.htm

Man, Rich! For someone who is so enthralled with others' sexual orientation, you sure do seem to find a lot of 'off the wall' sites all on your own...

How strict are the border patrols now? I'm a convicted felon, and I'm concerned that it may be an issue crossing the border. It happened quite some time ago, so I'm not sure there'd even be a question. I'm just curious as to how it'd work for me...

I've never had a problem at the border. Come to think of it I've never been asked for id or searched. They run through the usual... "destination" "length of stay" "anything to declare" .... you look so innocent Jay, how could anyone know just by looking at you what a criminal you are. Besides... I am not sure they can or would run you through NCIC for records... but then again, Mick had his little problem.

I wasn't sure if it'd be an issue, or how they'd even find out in an instant. But when I was convicted, I was told "...good luck EVER trying to leave the country...". In fact, I was told I couldn't. I didn't think it would really be an issue, so I never looked into it...

Now getting by the Center Barnstead border patrol could be another issue...

Jay... apparently you have nothing to worry about... check out what's going on. Canada has put it's best "men" on the border!

Maybe you'd have a problem after all. Read about 1/2 way down the link. Although it says convicted criminal OR a risk blah blah blah. If they asked and you said no... and they found out... what would happen? Send ya home?

Montreal is an awesome time... it's worth looking into a little more.

Yeah, see? That's what I'm talkin' about. But how could they access that info quick enough to deny me? Plus, my little 'incident' happened over 15 years ago, and the time served was minimal...kinda...:cool

just don't get caught carrying a gun and you'll be all set.

The only way they would know or catch you is if they were fore-warned....

you don't think they are reading this right now do you?
I didn't know the border mounties COULD read!!!

I've crossed the border prolly 20+ times. Never had a problem and never once asked for id. I don't know how they'd know. It doesn't say that if you are a convicted felon you will be absolutely denied entry. I think it would depend on the crime, etc...

I've never had any problem at the border either, but last 4th of July, I went for a day ride into Canada and I was asked a question that I had never been asked before

"Have you ever been in court for anything other than a traffic violation?" which kinda took me off guard, when I said yes, I had to explain myself, that I have served on jury duty and I have been an expert witness in several civil cases.

Last fall I took a ride up thru Pittsburg to the border crossing and turned around, this was shortly after 9/11, I stopped at the border and rested a few minutes and had a drink, I noticed that it was taking people much much longer to come back into the country and they were doing a lot of searchin.

I ain't been to Montréal since the early 70's used to go there regularly when I was in college at Paul Smith's, it was only 45min-an hour drive, a lot more fun than goin to Plattsburg, a college buddy of mine had family & friends that let us park, only a block & half away from St Cathie's, it was very cool, we had very secure parking for free and within walkin distance.

I won't take ya up on the flood gates thing... fuck it, we all make mistakes.

I'm just curious how the fuck anyone would ever know.

Now if you went to get a visa than yes, they'd run your history and you'd prolly get fucked.

"Violent Crime" - forget all I've said about you being gay. I'm very sorry. You don't keep loaded weapons at home do ya?

eh, I just crossed the other day to go up to Coaticook. All they asked was:
    "Where ya goin?"
    "Purpose of trip?"
    "How long are ya stayin"
"Been in front of a judge recently?"
    "Carrying any alcohol?"
    "Carrying cigaretes and how many"
    "Carrying any weapons"
"Do you have any items to declare"

Have a nice day. Now coming back into the states, now that was another story being from Grandby, QC. Jeeze, open up the Jeep, lift the hood, back seat, underneath, 2 forms of ID, name rank and serial
The Canadian folks have always been notorious for being lax at the borders, and not much has changed other than there a 2 people at each booth now.

While I'm not as armed as Chip, I do have my share: two shotguns ( 12 ga. & 410 ga.), a lever action 30/30, a 50 cal. muzzle loader, a 357 revolver, and semi 9 mm. (It used to be reeeeeeaaaallllll easy to purchase firearms)...

Oh yeah!!! And my bud is workin' on a small canon for me, so I can stop borrowing his for Rally & Race Week...
