    Mt.Bike Wompatuck State Park 2010

    http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/southeast/womp.htm

I'll keep this post going all year for anyone that wants to join in.

I need to get my but and aching knees in shape. I want to get into a 3 day a week regiment. But for now I'll start off with a Sunday Ride. Anyone wants to join me for a slow start to a long riding season. I know of 20-25 miles of trails that never back onto itself.

    Sunday 3-21-2010 8:00
Not planning to do 25 miles. 10-15 should be enough to royally kick my but this trip.

My ass bone is sore. 15 miles just under 2 hours. Great start. But I killed myself. I was riding to a point where I had trouble concentrating. This will improve as I become increasingly fit. This will help with track concentration as well.

    Next ride
    Thursday 3-25 @5:00 pm
    Sunday 3-28 @8:00am

How's the new "downhill" line off the hill? I hear there's a new trail with little bermys and jumps...

3rd ride in over 4 years. Not ready for that long climb after 10 or so miles. Have not made it up there yet. I do see all kinds of branches to the bottom section.

2 miles in I tell Justin watch out up ahead there is a tricky little drop. It is a 5' drop at about 45deg with roots and rocks that stick up 1"-2" horizontally across. I run down it as I always do and get to the bottom roll left out of the way and look back. Most people might see this and hearing a word of caution might just stop and walk thru this section. Not this trooper. Next think I see is A$$ over tee kettle starting at about 3' coming down the hill. 1 Plus is that he did not have clipless peddles or else the bike would have come along on top of him for the ride. He went into a tuck and roll mode and was gingerly getting up. Hey Justin, what you did on Sunday was just like a highside on a motorcycle. Justin was rubbing his right shoulder and I asked if he broke his Collar Bone. "I don't think so." He was rubbing it more towards the AC area of the shoulder and I asked do you think you separated anything? "I don't think so. It is just sore. This is the shoulder that just had the surgery on.... The doctor said I had no restrictions." We sat around for a bit and and asked if he wanted to go back. "Na, this is fun lets keep going." O.K. let me know at any time when you want to head back. We rode another 8+ miles back for over 10+ mile exhausting ride.

For someone that never mountain bike before he sure could make it thru some of the technical sections.

Thanks for the company. And no you did not hold me back. I think I held you back. 7mph ave over 10+ mile. Is a damn good ride for someone the never MB before.

    I lost 4 lbs in 1 week. 182 down to 178.

Next 2 rides I'm planning to do
Bring a change you are going to get wet and muddy.
    Thursday 4-1 @ 5:00 59 degrees
    Sunday 4-4 @ 8:00 52 Degrees to start getting up to 70's.

Re: Mt.Bike Wompatuck State Park 2010

    How is the shoulder???

Went out yesterday. Legs are getting better as I am not up to 7.8mph and moving up in mileage and increasing technical terrain. Berating is slowly coming around. It is amazing how much skill I've lost. I have to get my upper body in shape to do what I want.

FYI: a 1.5" thick piece of wood caught between the forks and the rim/spokes stops the bike on a dime at about 12mph. The body does not stop as quickly. It needs some help like dirt and rocks to do that.

Lost 5# to date. Down to 177#. At least 7 more to go.

Next outing Sunday April 11 @8:00

shoulders getting better. damn thing was hurting bad for a bit. I'll be ready to go soon. I have drill this weekend. I think I'm going to wait until I'm doing push ups again before I head out. I'm getting the itch for more mud though.

I heard there is a lot of nice flowing riding there, got to get out there this summer. How technical are the drops there? 5-10 foot drops? Rocky? Lots of uphill climbs?

nah dude, its pretty mellow. one fairly large hill (im guessing about a quarter mile climb to the top, if that) there's some tricky rocks you can ride if you search em out...like solgirl said, it's maintained by nemba. it cant be THAT burly. its definitely a fun place to kill calories.

i mtb several times a week in RI, sometimes make it into mass and sometimes CT. If anyone down here is interested, im always up for a ride. Except for tomorrow, cause I just ripped my derailleur hanger off and need a new one... I suppose I could ride the single speed...

I've been trying to get back on the bike myself but I need a new pair of clip on shoes.. where's a good place to try on some different brands.

I have wide feet and the Sidi's i have now cut off the circulation in my feet.

I can usually be at Womp at 5:00 and ride to 7:00.
I've been doing Sun and Thursday's. Eventually I want to get to Sunday Tuesday and Thursday.

Just pounded another 15 miles out in the 7mph range. My fat Ass just blew the rear shock 2 rides ago . I just found this out this Sunday when I picked the bike up. Good thing I got a shock the is rebuildable.

Womp is not too difficult of a ride but there are a fair number of rocks and roots to make you really work for your miles. Bordarland is nice and can have a pleasant flow w/out having to work too hard. Pine Hills in Plymouth by the power plant has a lot of nice running trails with a fair amount of climbs.

Did my first race Saturday, 10.9 miles in 1:07,for ninth place. Small gap with three riders 30-45 seconds ahead of me, should have pushed it harder.

Congrats. you are going to have to show me the way.

I tore apart the rear shock and put it back together again. All better now and no more stiction.

I need to do the front now and get some grit out of the headset.

Nest trip out Thursday @ 5:00
