Said buddy lives in New Ipswich, NH. The meet spot is meant to be near him so his wife can go if she wants (as a pillion with rob, since he is very very new).
Also the spots filling up comment was meant as a general announcement, I saw you on there.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
Tentative route. Start point is Dunkin Donuts in Jaffrey, NH. I will be riding the route at some point in the next couple weeks and will adjust it as necessary to avoid serious road work and other hazards. Time on Google maps says this 147 mile route will take approximately 4.5 hours, so I think that is probably more like 3:45 of actual ride time. Again, if things go haywire, I will adjust accordingly.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
I can tell you right now you won't be able to get through Sullivan (P to Q). This is what Sullivan looks like right now:

If you need me to, I can check out Gilsum-Surry Road as a bypass (I know route 12A up to that road is fine).

Yeah, I was worried about Sullivan because of the rains and washouts. I have a backup idea, just need to time it out and stuff. I was pretty tired last night and just wanted to get something out so people weren't left totally in the dark (and anyone on the fence could have an idea of route before all the slots filled up).
If you could run that bypass and let me know if it is still there, that would be much appreciated.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
I'd like to join you if you decide to have a Sunday ride in August. Saturdays are work days for me. :mope:

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
12A to Gilsum-Surry Road is good. There are 3 or so spots where sand is in the road, but the road is in one piece.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
BUXu did it, that is where I copied the list from. Sorry I didn't check the previous list to see that you were removed.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
No its not a big deal, not blaming you. I just think its funny how it keeps happening to me.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
Drewski and I wanted to go on your newbie ride but unfortunetly we already have a prior commitment. Here's hoping that you do a 2nd one.

Nice route Keira! There's a Mobil in Hillsborough at your 100 mile point which is a nice gas/rest stop point (15 min). Also point "I" is a spur so you'll need to add more points to force the route onto Frye Hill Rd. or move point "I" back onto N. Fitzwilliam Rd. If you plan on lunch (60 min) I'd adjust the duration to 5 hours just so people don't wind up home later than they expected.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
Riding 50' up a road, turning around, and going back? Sounds like following Dave's GPS to me.
Bonus points if the road is dirt.
-
Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
+1 on the route.. very nice
-
Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
Nice hike there, should be fun for everyone. I live in the area so I concur with the choice of route. Jaffrey is easy to get to from Mass, only 20 mins from Rt.2 in Gardner.

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
Have fun and be safe!
Few pointers for the newbies.
Show up early or on time at least
Have a full tank of gas when you show up
Wear gear helmet gloves boots and a jacket
Bring something to drink.
Check tire pressures
Lube chain before the ride
Have fun!

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
I checked out South Road/Gilsum Road through Sullivan today, and the Gilsum Road section is a nightmare. 1/2 of it is dirt, with lots of sections of loose gravel and piles of stone that was used to repair the road. I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks for checking that out. I am hoping to head out today and check it out further....4 wheels of course due to the whole Sullivan-is-missing thing)
KB Thanks for the newbie pointers. Our meet point (for people's info) will be at a Dunkin Donuts, which happens to be right next to a gas station. Fueled and caffeinated will be real easy to muster.
Also, looks like we are full, I will keep a second ride on the tip of my brain and see what I can figure out as far as a day to get out there again.

If we make a gas stop in H'boro, I would probably go to the Irving instead. It is cheaper ;) Yeah, like I said it is a tentative route so far and my duration was based more on a hope than a route. the "points" are not real points, just put there so I could plan roads and whatnot, they don't actually indicate stops. Final plans will be up once I figure out where we have roads and where they are missing. :)

Re: mzdagrl's Annual Slowbie Newbie Ride
This is the same day as Dave's Seacoast Curtis Ribs ride isn't it?
As much as I would like to ride with you, the ribs win.
Hope to catch the later one.

No worries. The intent of this ride is not to "win out" against another group ride, but rather provide a group ride that is smaller and more geared toward those who are not as used to them. I have been on Seacoast rides. This is not one.

I suggested Mobil because it's motorcycle friendly. Attachment 30263
I'm interested to hear how "D" through "G" turn out as my routing software didn't show paved roads there yet.

Sure. Where is a good meet up place between Norton and Sharon?

Shell station route 140 exit towards Foxboro on right side about 1/2 mile from 95. We will then head up to 495N for the 2 hour ride up to Jaffrey. So meet you at 6:45 A.M. 7/28/2012 that should get us there 15 minutes before they are ready to leave. Will get gas as soon as we get there.
