Oak Island Nova Scotia UJM/Adventure Ride Early mid JUn

    ACTUALLY NOW JULY 14TH ISH

Yes I watch the stupid show, but Oak Island is on the shore of Nova Scotia a supposedly great ride and scenery

Tentative plans is to catch the ferry in Portland that takes you to Nova Scotia BIKE AND RIDER $217

5 or 4 days coast roads etc

Riding/stopping up the coast, just a buzz around Oak Island
Proceeding north along the coast and returning south including the bay of Fundy

Once in Maine we can decide to cruise tour or burn down 95

This is at least 4 days and can span a weekend, thinking not July4th re busy roads etc.
I would prefer motels but would camp if had to. Separate rooms as I snore like a chain saw.

So with gas food lodging etc. I expect its like 600 plus dollars

I do speed but can change riding styles to accommodate, tend to pass alot

    So anybody ?

OK so far so good...Always happy to spend time with Timmyduck

    Lets be clear...
I am doing something BUT any attendee has more than an equal vote on how it goes.

I will spot a tentative date of Friday July 7, 2017 thru and including Monday and maybe Tuesday

I want to do the Nova Scotia coast and Bay of Fundy but have not worked out logistics
Oak Island around back to here is about 12 hours on 95 so 2 days at least

    Note real riding
D1 Tentative Yarmouth, NS via ferry from Portland, Me
    D2 Shelbrooke, NS
    D3 Bangor, Me
    D4 Home

Can't be actually specific as ferry schedule is not released
ALL ferry and lodging reservations MUST be made before trip

I am early July because currently
Family trip to DC late June
Yellowstone.. Beartooth Rally Montana mid August
3 days in Rangeley Me early September

Also FYI I am on medicare meaning I have to buy medical insurance for being out of the country... you too if applicable

They sure want a pretty penny for that boat ride.

The CAT’s season is slated to kick off onJune 15 and wrap-up service in the end of September. Adults aboard the CAT will pay $107 one-way and $194 round-trip, while youth tickets (ages 6 to 13), cost $65 one-way and $118 round-trip. Seniors over the age of 60 pay discount prices of $102 for a single trip or $186 both ways, while children 5 and under ride for free, according to the company’s website.
One-way vehicle fees vary from $115 to $500, depending on size, with standard cars coming in at $199.Bicycles are $20 each way.

Well It does save more than a day and about 700 miles i guess

It is a shame that the bluenose stopped which was like 1/2 that much

I'm thinking about this... I haven't been to Nova Scotia since the 70s (honeymoon with Starter Wife).

Gotta say, though: Based on my trip to Canada last spring, I suspect $600 will just about cover food, drink & fuel. Probably my own fault for forgetting that Rolling Rock is an "import" up there.

I spent about a month up in N.S. summer 2015.

I hated all of the city areas. We would load up on groceries and head back out into the wilderness. You can traverse most of the island on dirt if you have the maps. Just to the south of Oak Island is Lunenburg definitely stop here. I would suggest heading north to Cape Breton. If I go back I will be skipping most of N.S. and just hanging on C.B.

Well you may be right that the cost is higher than 600
I just did not want people to think its like a weekend camping either

Damn, you guys roll heavy. Did 2 weeks through Labrador and Newfoundland last fall and the total bill was under $1500 including all the gear I had to replace on the fly.

well the Ferry web site is back up for this summer

They say it saves about 5 hours compared to driving I assume they mean expressways I estimate cost for Motorcycle and Rider being about $150

It would certainly possible to ride up to the bridge then down the west coast along the bay of Fundy then around Yarmouth and then
on the east Atlantic coast this would have us circumnavigating the island

Please note that I am an ahole but do this stuff for fun. You have to expect a little rain over 4 or 5 days BUT
I avoid making reservations etc.before 3 or 4 days before. If there is a 4 day storm coming I AINT goin !

I'm not sure what bridge you're referring to but the Ferry saves a lot more than 5 hours if you're talking about getting to Yarmouth. You're taking a long ride to see Oak Island and there is stuff worth seeing in NS more than Oak Island. At the very least, you should plan to spend some time at Peggys Cove and and the Swiss Air Flight 111 Memorial And since you're that close you may as well spend a day in Halifax.

If you're serious about 4 or 5 days the Ferry is, by far, your best be...

If you ride from Portland to Yarmouth its at least 12 1/2 hours of mostly slab...not counting fuel, food or rest stops. I'd count on 14 to 15 hours and then you arrive in Yarmouth pretty spent...

I'm not sure, but I don't think you're from Portland. So, you want to add that leg to your trip too!

    But what do I know...

(You can save a couple hours if you take the Ferry from St. John to Digby but overall I'm not sure how much money that would save you.)

The 12 hours mostly by slab, I don't consider riding for entertainment

Well maybe if I end up by myself I might add a day and little road, then bay side to Yarmouth

I dont know why I try to leave details open for other inputs by other attendees as it usually doesn't add much

My NEVA thing has morphed into camp and food with some riding

While group adventures like this are potentially a lot of fun, this is why my summer expeditions are always solo.

My pace, my route, my destinations. I spend every day the rest of the year negotiating with others, the rides i plan are a break from that.

Well you get something and you lose something

Yes its a lot of riding and we should keep a pace. I wanted the freedom to stop and of course will change plans in response.

The ferry is $217 bike and rider 1 way, hoping the schedule makes it easy. I would like to be standing in NS at the end of the 1st day
