    Re: Where did you ride today?

    Nice little 400+ mile jaunt this weekend. Took back roads up to Jay Peak Saturday & spent the night at the resort (more on that later) with a bunch of peeps, then more back roads on the way home. I can't even begin to list the routes we took, but we hit a few of the old goodies that I haven't been on in FOREVER. This is about the only time I remembered to take a quick pick - it was on the way up.

    Jay Peak Resort during the summer? Don't do it. Just don't. Total bore, way overpriced and everything on campus closes by 9:00pm, most at 8:00pm. There were 16 of us and we were rarin' to tear it up. Obviously none of us wanted to ride the bikes to the local town for some drinking & what not, so we were relegated to getting rowdy in the hotel rooms. Thankfully there was a wedding party staying as well and they pretty much took the attention off us. The restaurants were meh, and service varied greatly. Not a place I'd stay again, summer or winter.

    Jay Peak is 18 miles from my brothers camp in Lowell (about 10 as a crow flies) Best entertainment in that neck of woods is the entertainment you make for yourself, horseshoes is a popular sport

    Yesterday a buddy and I went to MT Lemmon in Tucson. Scenic "bi-way" couldn't have more scenic!

    The top was 75 degrees! I was on my Thruxton "The Ton" and Dave was on his Speed Twin.
    Later yester afternoon it poured monsoon rains! Morning rides afternoon rains.

    I went on a ride earlier in the afternoon to scrub the chicken strips, after I got back, I decided to go out again and take a lap around the pond (Winnipesaukee)

    Re: Where did you ride today?

    Multi is nearly there

    I figured out my last obstacle in getting it back on the road. The new Zard exhaust removes some and reuses some OEM tail light/mud guard assembly. I'm also replacing the terrible OEM brake light with an LED unit from CompWerks that's much brighter. Zard does not include installation instructions, just an exhaust and bag of assorted hardware. Anyway, I have to extend the factory tail light harness about 6" to reroute it a bit, then I can bolt it all together. Then just need to reinstall the nose cone and side fairings and she'll be road ready again.

    This is going to be such a better Multistrada. Bullet point of the mods/work:
    * New Zard full system
    * New 48t EVR clutch/open cover (the old one was slipping)
    * New Sargent seats
    * Valve clearances and new belts
    * LED tail light
    * Oberon clutch and brake master covers
    * Oberon foot pegs (factory ones are slippery)
    * Full fluid change

    Probably about 40-50 hours of work into this reno, took me 8 months to get through that! Bike was mostly good to start, now it should be great. When we hit the off season I'm going to pull the forks and shock for a refresh/respring and correct raise the bike back up. Lowering link is fully collapsed and the forks are about 2" up in the triples for the PO's....vertical challenges.

    Haven't taken any recently, I'll post it up next week when it's finished.

    You're right, 30" is perfectly average

    Re: Where did you ride today?

    My commute is great from North Adams to Pittsfield (sometimes Lenox) rolling on Rt 8 to US 7, but I love that US 7 from the top to the bottom of Mass. Such a nice mix of mountains, town, and some small highway driving.

    I rode 7 from Williamstown to The Mount in Lenox on Sunday.. man what a great ride.

    I won't lie I am still terrified to get out on the interstate. I am thinking about exploring up and around 116, 8A, 9, US 20, etc. Thoughts or suggestions?

    I'm going to give away a lot of my knowledge of good VT motorcycle roads...

    140 from Mt Holly to Poultney is a gem.

    Winhall Hollow Rd, Mountain Rd past Stratton, Stratton-Arlington Rd and Rt 100 back north is a excellent stretch of twisty pavement. 11 from Londonderry to Chester is pretty decent, while 121 into Grafton is better but dirt.

    131 through Cavendish, 106 to Reading, then Tyson Rd/Town Hwy 1 has some really great twisties and views. Then loop up over Okemo via Okemo Ridge Rd.

    100 north from Ludlow up to Stockbridge is pretty good, throw 100A into that as well which is better than 100.

    If you want dirt as well, Puppy Dog Route, Dirty Dog Route and NEBDR all go through that area.

    I have GPX files of a lot of this stuff if you're interested.

    I was thinking of hitting part of the Puppy Dog, but I don’t have all my gear with me and can probably only excuse myself from family activities for a couple hours/day at most. We’ll see, I may get there. I’ve got the GPX with me, so I have the option at least. I swapped my AX41’s for my Shinko 705’s for the ride up here, trying to save on wear and tear. How friendly is the route for 70/30 tires?

    Thanks for the street recs, I’ll definitely hit those!

    Puppy Dog can be done on a Harley with street tires, it's very easy. Most of Dirty Dog "main" route and NEBDR in that area can also, but there are more class 6 sections that would be better done with 70/30 tires...the expert sections on either though I'd only recommend with aggressive tires and a decently competent rider.

    I personally wouldn't hesitate to ride any of them on 705's really. I'd even probably do the expert sections on 705's, as it's been extremely dry this year.

    All good out thataway. Follow 8A north to Charlemont, eat at Wells Provisions, continue on 8A into VT, hook a right on 112 south and follow it into Shelburne Falls MA, get coffee at Mocha Maya's, for example ... wander over to Ashfield ... and so on ...
