I know for a fact they suck in deep snow! It took about eight of us to help get his bike off the ice and back up to the road.

That was wunna the best track layouts I did. I was never able to recreate it, but I came close again once. The one I did last year was similar but it was more spread out and made for higher speeds. Not sure I'm gonna have at it this year, but I say that every year and still end up with one.

The best stuff out there IMO. Expensive to pony up the first time, but so worth it if you want to ride in complete comfort down into freezing temps. I'd recommend the dual controller, base layer and gloves at a minimum. Socks are great as well.

Use coupon "advforum". IIRC it's 20% off everything on the site, and usable infinitely.
Well shit, think I might've just found Sylwia's Christmas present(s).

    Thanks for the tip!

If you're lookin for a different street/dirt lid that won't break the bank, I just got myself and Sylwia a pair of Bell MX9 Adventure helmets... Turns out a bunch of our friends have the same lid and former NESR member Jro made a review video on it a while back. We're digging em so far.

I rode my V-strom to a trade show at Center of NH in Manchester one year, about a 55 mile ride one way, at the end of the day/evening I put all my gear on in the parking garage, it's pouring rain as I leave, I get on the highway , almost no traffic, and what was there (I-93 & I-293) I was passing, only going 35mph WTF! then as I turn in a northerly direction, I understand why, the rain and sleet is freezing to my face shield and I can't see, I pull over put my kickstand down and get off to adjust my windscreen, I fell flat on my face it was so slippery. I adjusted my windscreen and faceshield in a way that deflects all the precip. and I was on my way again, slow, but on my way, and faster than any other traffic, onto 101 east, precip turned to snow by the time I was passing thru Candia. When I got off in Epping, already 5 inches , on 125, the southbound side was plowed, northbound side wasn't, I rode the left side if the road, passing thru Barrington, I passed a scene with 7 cars in the ditch, 3 police cruisers, and a couple tow trucks, when I pulled into my driveway in Farmington 7" snow, about the max depth before my belly pan starts dragging. The trip that normally takes an hour, only took an hour and 20 minutes

riding in snow is not as hard as you would think, keep your feet on pegs, using them as outriggers is asking for trouble

a week later, I rode to a Land Surveyors meeting in Keene, yup, freezing rain all the way back, at night, 2 hours away.....took me 2½ hours

I've been rocking my MX9 adventure since 2015 (might be time for a new one!). It's my go-to for commuting or weeklong Mexico dual sporting. I got the photochromic shield as well. I only wish it had speaker pockets, while my Sena speakers fit in comfortably, they sometimes fall out when I remove the helmet -- maybe I need better velcro fasteners?

I also have a Bell MX9 Adventure (MIPS version)
Not a huge fan of the transitions shield though, I much prefer the drop-down sunvisor on my Shoei GT-Air.

Yeah, it's not great if you're going in/out of trees with lots of sun shade. But for street use and desert use the transitions works well esp if you ride all day into the night... or ride to work in the daylight and home at night.

Good to know... The transitions shield kinda piqued my interest but between the price & hearing your experiences, I'll def pass.

I'm not sure I'll even use the shield all that often.

I also use the MX-9 ADV mips; it has speaker pockets.

I use goggles with it for dirt bike rides; visor closes over it.

I still just use a street bike helmet for actual pavement rides. More aerodynamic and quieter

It’s more that it doesn’t really get dark enough to be effective like a pair of sunglasses, and if you have the peak visor on, it blocks a lot of the sun from transitioning the upper part. It works better with the peak visor off. I’ve never used it with goggles though, I imagine that there wouldn’t be room for a drop-down sun visor if you’re using goggles.

In the summer with my Shoei, I am usually riding with the main shield up and the drop down sunvisor down for more airflow.

Re: Where did you ride today?

In the low 20's went to the post office on my scooter, 6 mile round trip, didn't really dress for a long ride, but warm enough, Carhartt insulated bib & arctic jacket, Sorels on my feet, and a ushanka instead of a helmet. It was a good test for weather protection, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get the Givi windscreen for it. stock screen is about 2" too short, I get blasted on my forehead in my normal posture, the Givi also is shaped to give coverage for the grips, everywhere else, weather protection is great

Rode to the mailbox and back on the four wheeler after putting front spring blocks in, then mounted the plow for winter and parked it.

Just need to switch the 500 over from water to coolant and throw the naughty wheels on once the temps stay solidly below freezing... getting anxious.

I used my UTV to park my trailer for the winter, and move my ToeHoe to where the trailer was parked, went out back to my range and took down 5 hemlock limbs on the tree next to my fire pit, now the closest branch is about 20ft above any fire (assuming I don't have any 20ft high bonfires) I got 3 garden hoses wound up and put away, 3 more to go

I'm not switching wheels again this year, my winter car tires performed better in snow an ice than my offroad tires with Trygg chains , mounting the plow is my next task, I have to swap out the tweeked push tubes first, I'v had the replacement tubes a couple months but I procrastinated thru Indian summer

Re: Where did you ride today?

I put my bike away, well really just in my heated basement.
Plates are always registered anyway Incase we get a decent day in the 40’s during winter.
I sucked out all the gas I could with my harbor freight suction pump and put in 2 cans of Trufuel.

It was 19 this morning here, the two Apes and the 450FX are tucked away in the loft of the garage, the Rappy 700 is ready for action, and Boner (YFZ450R) is stored in the back of the C10 until the ice is thick enough to ride on. Snow is in the forecast for tomorrow

I've been seeing someone regularly seemingly commuting on a Spyder. I didn't see him this past Friday, but I saw him on my way home about every other day last week and this week.

Where I usually see him and the direction he's heading in doesn't really make sense if he's at HK. Unless he's taking that certain route to use traffic lights to help him get out into traffic. But even that's a stretch. I guess it could be him. I think we all take odd ways on the bikes from time to time!

    Good for him either way!

I don't believe it is. I'll keep a closer eye out though.

On another note: I can't even count how many bikes have blasted by the shop today here in Manchghanistan...
