    Ride cut short

started out on a ride today headed north, plan was to do Sandwich Notch, Tripoli Road, Bear Notch, Jefferson Notch, Success Pond, and York Pond, never made it that far

the last half mile of Tripoli Road, forst I hear my radar detector making funny noises, then look at my tach and it's sitting at zero and my volt meter was at about 10.5

while still coasting, I managed to restart it, volts went up to 11, then 12 I headed back south on Rt 3, and at 3000-3500rpm, the volt meter climbed back to 12.3-12.4, noshere near the 14.8 that it normally runs at but at least above 12, I decided with the 12v that I would get on 93, as soon as I got on 93, it dropped to 11.7, 11.4 then back to 12+ so I stayed on the highway, figured I'd stay on till Tilton then take 140 home. as I rode south, it kept fluctuating from low 11.x to 12.x then about 5 miles from Tilton it started dropping, down to 10.5, then down to 9.8 and about a mile from the exit, it died with only 8.6 volts, the last mile to the exit is all downhill, I coasted to the exit ramp

got off bike and started pushing, up the off ramp, then over the bridge toward 140

about this time a guy on a Harley with his wife that were sporting Christian Motocycle Assn patched on their gear stopped and offerend assistance, when I told him I had al elecrical problem and not out of gas, he offered to go home and come back with his trailer, I coasted down to the McD's parking lot and waited, about an hour later, he arrived and trailerd me home
cool dude, we swapped stories about trips to Deals Gap etc.

Hopefully, its only a bad RR and not a bad stator

only took 2 pic along the way

Looks like you missed Sandwich Notch Rd. because this house is one turn south off of Rt. 49 on Chickenboro Rd. His deck railing is decorated with a couple hundred empty handles of Bacardi light, right?

no, I just finished Sandwich notch road and made a special detour just to take the pic, the guy changed his signs since the last time I was there, still amusing though

done that already, battery is on a charger now,

pretty sure its the RR, my gps has been acting hinkey the past few days, I suspect, once it cools it will work for a half hour or so until it heats up, that's the way the RR went out on my SV, it was very hard to diagnose, but now I know you have to test RR's warm to be sure even if they test ok cold

Ain't it nice to be able to wrench on your own stuff. Sounds like you'll be up and going in no time

    Re: Ride cut short

Tripoli road is in good shape, the gravel section is packed with scattered loose stuff, dusty, we need rain, I was clippin right along, but I'm running TKCs on my V-strom

Never made it to Jefferson Notch, when I went up there earlier this year, it was still closed, USFS had plenty of blowdown to clean up

I'm starting to have fits of withdrawl, this is my 5th day I've been bikeless and the best I can really hope for is the parts come tuesday and I can be riding wednesday
