    rt 100 side trips

I'm riding Rt 100 from Mass to at least Stowe tomorrow and then points North. Wondering if anyone has favorite side loops that they'd like to recommend either on here or via PM/email (hinesmatt@hotmail.com).

Any advice much appreciated. Grand Prix du canada here I come!

I am in Northern , VT till Friday morning then off to bike week to work for like 10 days.
I will be in Stowe tommorrow to pick up my mail and then running home to Berkshire, Vt thru Smuggler's Notch.
If you want to ride some wild, crazy fast stuff and can keep up with a Busa, I could ride with you for a while tommorrow.

Rt 100 crosses Rt. 89 like 20 miles from Stowe...

South of that point if you look at a map you will see a large portion of southwestern VT is occuppied by the Green Mountain National forest.

There are a bunch of gap roads which go between Rt. 100 and Rt. 7 and cross through the forest.

Almost all of those are worth a try. Careful if you are not comfortable riding on dirt though. Some of them have dirt sections.

Otherwise some of the twistiest portions are from the MA border up to around Ludlow, VT.

hit the Middlebury gap (125) while you're up there. there's a bunch of tight twisties along the river. The gap is almost up near the app gap (17) which is also damn good and you can make a pretty fun loop around Waitsfield just south of Stowe. Basically any of the roads that go west off of 100 towards rt 7 are good technical twisties. Just watch out for dirt if you don't know the road.
