Yeah, i have Monday off from my regular job but i still gots to work I'm never installing a marble tile floor again

I'm free tomorrow tho but where is there good ice after this warm weather? Most of my screws ripped out last weekend riding with the 2 squids

Sunday is no good for me, I have stuff to do, The warm weather today would have melted the top ice to smooth it out, and its supposed to get cold again tomorrow. So work your side job tommorrow and ride on mon instead.
Swing by home depo and get some more screws.

It took me just over an hour to stud up both front and rear. I bought 500 screws figuring I would have extras, well I had only 8 screws left.

So I am not sure where to go mon but any one else not have to work?

If I can get a free couple o minutes I'll check out the trails near me tomorow but I have a feeling the snow is too deep and the snowmobilers haven't been out too much to pack it down.

I'll keep you posted.

Well the bike has been dormant in the COLD garage since the snow fell. Being a yamaha 4 srtoke, I don't need to tell you that it took quite literally 100 kicks to get her going.
I tried it out around the house, but the snow is too deep. Even at the farm down the road, there is a smalll amount of trail that is ice packed, that was cool but not enought terrain is open to make it worth it.
Atleast I was able to try it out. Being that my dirt road is all ice anyway, that added to the ice miles today.

So no one is going out tomorrow on the holiday huh?

Turning up the idle a bit helps starting, as does adjusting the fuel screw for the colder temps.

BTW, a swap to an '03 WR250F exhaust cam will provide the benefit of auto-decomp -- a real leg saver.

That auto decomp IMO sucks I have no troubles at all starting the YZ 426 even in the colder temps, but this new WR450 with auto decomp is a bear to start when it's cold. it doesn't allow you to freely kick the motor over to warm things up a bit before actually trying to start it. Forget the E-start when it's below 35 cuz it aint gonna start it
Plus with the decomp lever (if you know how to use it) you got 3 strokes out of the 4 to build momentum with the kicker before hitting the compression stroke.
That's just my veiw tho with having both types of bikes

Its not that I don't know how the starting drill goes, I have that part down pat. Its the simple fact that the bike hasn't been started in 4months or so and it was friggin cold today.
I couldn't even get the ttr started last week and it had a fully charged battery. Once I did finally get the wr started it still took for ever to warm up to the point where it was rideable.
Both of the bikes have always been cold blooded, I wasn't suprized that it took as much as it did to get going.

Sean, no way should that bike be that much of a PITA to start. Did you put lighter weight oil in the gearcase? Lay the bike on it's side to get the float bowl primed? Just a thought. Kicking a bike 20 times to start it is bullshit. 100 is crazy.

well no, like a dumb ass I hopped on and started kicking, I did "prime it" like they show you in the video, and no it doesn't have lighter oil in it. I never planned to ride it in the cold, so I never prepped it for that. Hind sight is 20/20.

The bike started right up within 3 to 5 kicks back in the fall, I am pretty sure it was just the cold factor, like I said I couldn't get the ttr started with a full charge on the battery and hooked up to the jumpstart feature of the battery charger. so it had pleanty of cranking amps but was too cold to get the juices flowing .

I guess if I had planned on doing the ice riding thing ahead of time I would have put lighter oil in it, adj the fuel screw and idle.

We shall se tommorrow if it gives me as much crap.

Do not ride the bike on the trails you will dull the screws before you get a achance to enjoy them on the ice. Try to walk your bike everywhere until it is on the ice.
The XR is a pain in the butt to start when it is real cold out. My buddy had to put his in the cab with the heater on to get his going.

The trails around me are all ice covered 4 wheeler ruts. there isn't any exposed dirt . even my dirt road that leads down to the farm has ice ruts to travel in.
I hear ya though. I was going to bring the bike into the kitchen for a bit to warm it up but it did finally start. Believe it or not it was the wifes idea for me to bring it in the house for a bit to warm it.

So when is the next ice event?

I think if the weather agree's we might be heading over to Mr. E's house next weekend. Had a blast over last time, tooled around on the big lake for a while, then spent a bit of time in the trails too. I dont think there are too many places where you can enjoy both at the same time!

Jay did you get a dirt bike or a quad? Ya otta, their fun...

So guys looks like mother nature may be deciding which day this weekend for us. Saturday is a 60% chance of showers all day, Sunday is clear with a high of 43.

Does Sunday work??? Does for me....
