    Single Track in New England?

Anyone familiar with any groups/clubs within 2hrs of Boston or so that have decent single track? Bike is fully plated and have a set of wheels with knobbies I’d like to get dirty.

I don’t mind paying a membership/fees and will obviously have the necessary OHV stickers for the bike.

Other than the usual NETRA and JDay events, I’m not sure what else is out there for legal riding, tho you do have Wrentham and Freetown state forests.

While I haven’t had a lot of free time recently, my neighbors and I try to ride every other weekend, or sometimes after work at my place. I’ve got about 10 miles of trails, mostly typical New England roots/rocks/elevation change type stuff, if you’re interested in checking it out, let me know. It’s in western RI

Hodges Village Dam has some great single track, @typeone is usually down to give tours. He has some great loops dialed in.

Re: Single Track in New England?

The Hopkinton-Everett OHRV Trail System in NH, colloquially referred to as Hop-Ev, has a bunch of multi-use trails with two of them being dedicated single-track for bikes. You should be able to get there in a little over an hour from Woburn.

It does require a NH OHRV sticker and the State has been incentivizing club membership in their fee schedules so consider joining a club prior to registering. If you register in person, it may be possible to join one at that time. More info can be found here: https://mvtr.org/hopkinton-everett-trails/

Syl and I are hoping to get over there soon now that we've got both dirty bikes regged.... just need ORV stickers and a day to ride over & explore.

yeah, Hodges is our local jam, more than happy to show people around ... great mix of novice > expert trail just tricky to piece together until you know the layout. MA ORV sticker needed.

Mark, that's great to know, would love to join you some time this season. (although free time has been tough lately for me as well)

Joining a club gives the member $30 off of the registration cost but the club membership is $30. For a one bike person it is a wash but if registering multiple bikes it saves $30 after the first one. Not sure if there is a limit on number of bikes or not.

Additionally being a member in the clubs frequently opens up other riding opportunities. MVTR the club I joined, as well as the club that helps maintain Hop Ev, sometimes has private ride days on member owned properties that wouldn't be available without the club membership. It also gets you in touch with people who may know of tolerated trails that they may be willing to introduce you to. I only know of MVTR and the choices it allows but I am sure the other clubs also have similar benefits to membership.

If you are curious about where Hop Ev is a google maps search of "Dunbarton Riding Area" will get you to the parking lot indicated by the green box with the white P on the Map above.

The beaver pond loop down at Franklin is a short loop, but is kind of single-track-y

This is awesome! I’ll get my feet wet in some of these loops and definitely take you guys up on any possible guides to get the lay of the land.

Looks like a NESR dual sport day is imminent.

MVTR is $30 but there are cheaper options out there. Here's a list maintained by NHOHVA: https://nhohva.org/clubs

As far as I know, MVTR is by far the largest club focused on trail bikes in NH and it's the one I've been a member of since shortly after moving to NH.

Once it cools off a bit, let’s set a weekend and burn some topsoil. I’m actually doing a couple trackdays with my dirty slut in middle of August, so after that will work. The YZ450FX is a bit of a handful on my trails, so I need some practice .. lol

yup, that map works for the main trails. the tricky part is HVD is two-way and not marked at all so it can get frustrating your first handful of times. best thing to do is to take an immediate right at the trail sign off the ORV parking lot, snake along those trails all the way out to the dam/dike area which is the further end. you'll have the river to your left (don't cross it, no motorized over that side) and the paved quarry road on your right. all of those lower trails that lead out to the dam are novice friendly and there is a railroad bed that is flat if you need even more noob friendly terrain to practice on.

other side of the paved quarry road has some nice flowy stuff down low as well then as the terrain climbs the hillside the trails get more technical but it's pretty easy to tell which ones those are.

group ride at Clough would be awesome, i haven't been up in years. i'll grab a NH reg this wknd in case that happens, taking the boys up to check out Pisgah and would like to hit Jericho again this season so i'll need the sticker anyway.

Re: Single Track in New England?

Syl & I are plated but need stickers. Have the paperwork here, just gotta fill it out & stop by their office. Hoping to do that this week. Maybe even today.

I'm tied up this weekend with TTD at Palmer, but surprisingly, I think next weekend & the weekend after that we're free & hoping to do some riding.

We're only 20 minutes from Hodges so we'll probably just roll the bikes outta the garage, jump on & ride over. If anyone wants to come back to our place afterwards for a bev, you're welcome to follow us back.

Yeah, Syl is a pretty solid beginner so we'll probably be sticking to the easy trails at first and maybe dip our toes into the intermediate stuff.
