Sportriders Experienced Rider Course- July 25

The official SRNE MSF Experienced RiderCourse is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, July 25 from 12:30 to about 6:00 at the Barnes Air National Guard base in Westfield, MA. (about 30 minutes west of Springfield, right off the Pike.)

In past years, many participants have ridden from the eastern part of the state to be in the classroom at 8AM! But this year, you won't have to be there until noon! So, no excuses.

There are currently 7 slots available. The cost is $100.00. This is the official training course that is recognized by the state as a licensing program and will get you a discount on your insurance.

This will be the new ERC cirriculum with 90% riding and 10% talking (during breaks). Depending on the group, we will focus on issues particular to sport riding and may offer some extra training in some sport riding techniques, such as hanging off. Oh, and it'll be a lot of FUN!

    Sign up today

Note: the July 25 date is labeled as FULL on the web site, but that is because it is blocked off for us. Sign up, by mentioning the date and that you are with Sportriders of New England.

Once you've signed up, e-mail at kenart@verizon.net so I can keep track of open slots.

    Let's go!!

Kham, why on earth would you want to do wheelies at a rider training course? I think that you would greatly benefit from this class.

Many riders (myself included) spend thousands of dollars on all sorts of riding gear and bike accessories. Why not spend a mere $100 improving the most important component of your riding, you...the rider?

Well, Ken says that they're going to try to tailor this one to sportriding a bit, and the ERC has supposedly been revamped a bit....so I can't say for sure, but the last ERC I took we got to practice maximum braking, what to do if/when you lock up the rear tire, swerving, and tight cornering, to name just a few maneuvers....

I think that some of the maneuvers are always good practice, no matter what your ability level.

And, heh, if you guys are up to it there is some really good riding just minutes from the ERC site (Barnes ANGB); maybe for some after class reinforcement....

I don't want to spend too much time explaining EXCACTLT what's involved, but I will say that in the 10 years I've been teaching ERCs, I've yet to see someone who hasn't left a better rider, no matter what their riding experience. Paul and I are trained to see problems and to help correct them. We also know how to even fine-tune an "excellent" rider's technique.

Now, you'll occassionally hear someone say "I didn't get too much out of the class". I say that rider probaly didn't have an open mind.

Taking an ERC is part of any serious rider's resume. Be sure to tell us what you hope to get out of the class and we can focus more specifically on that issue, if it's really what you need.

I would love to attend an ERC. This one's a bit of a hike for me, but if you ever consider holding one up this way you can count me in.

Anyone who's close enough to do this would be foolish not to. Having attended the new track rider session taught by Ken at the last track day, I can attest to his *excellent* teaching skills.

    Thanks for the props.

The ERC is focused on developing foundations: braking cornering, turning.

The track day school focused on riding the track and assumed the foundations were adequate. The ERC actually looks at the fundamentals and assesses whether there is areas for improvement and whether there aren't ways to instill good habits. All of this applies to riding, on or off track.

BTW, I am assured there are 6 slots still remaining. Pass it on.

I just dropped my check in the mail today.

I am going to be wearing my full AeroStitch suit, with shorts and long sleeve shirt underneath. This is OK, right?

I hope it wont be raining, or it will be a miserable mess.

    See you guys there...

Ill be leaving Boston around 10 AM in case anyone from Eastern Mass wants to ride out with me.. drop me a line.

    See you there

I highly recommend that you have a long sleev t-shirt and jeans for riding on the range. If it's hot, you'll be too uncomfortable in the 'stitch. Also, bring shorty summer gloves if you have them. Yes, this gear provides less protection, but it's no good if you are sweltering and unable to concentrate.
