    Re: SuMo's unite

Memorial day weekend I will be in DC visiting in-laws. The following weekend is the BMWMOV Puppy Dog ride. I will try to post a link to that later.

I got a plated motard. It has a tiny tank ( 50 ish miles maybe?). I would like to play.

What kind of sumo is this? I'm looking for an all around trackday, trail, road setup.

    Re: SuMo's unite

Any suggestions on an all around trackday, 20% offroad 80% road sumo? I'm short so the kicking part kinda sucks so electric start is a bonus and light.
I've only owned street bikes mostly R1's and race SV's so I don't have much history with Sumo's

It's a KTM XCW-200 2-stroke. To put it simple, it belongs on tight trails with knobbies, not SM wheels and tires. If it's dry, it's ok on the trails, but it's on road manners suck all around.
    If you want a multi duty SM, I'd get a 450cc+ 4-stroke

I have a Suzuki DRZ400sm and I couldn't be happier with it. It's not the fastest, lightest, SuMo but it's reliable(according to other owners), isn't high maintenance, and has an aftermarket following. I feel it's a good entry to the SuMo experience. I can't speak if it's good on the track, but I do plan on tracking it.

Everyone I've asked says the DRZ is utterly not competitive on the track. So if you're looking to race, look elsewhere. If not.. Well, it's on my shortlist of doooooo wants.

No I'm done racing sold both race bikes, just looking for a fun all around bike. I read that the Aprilia SVX550 seems good overall but not any around...

the Ape is a timebomb and maintenance intensive.
the suzuki is your typical bomb proof bike. insert gas and oil, push button and ride.
the KTM is going to be the best, but requires maintenance. not like the Ape, but youve got to stay on top of it.
huskys are somewhere between the Ape and the KTM
any jap converted dirtbike was never designed to be ridden on the street and therefore will need extensive maintenance and rebuilds.

drz400sm can also do some light gravel road duty...

I tried it a bit, but being in 1st gear all day and just going on/off with the throttle was a little annoying

I'm a little bike sort of guy anyways...so I stuck to my DR200se

Same. I'd like to bring mine out even just for a session to see what it's like.

+1, I'm not expecting to be on podium with the DRZ, just want to be out there having fun.

    Re: SuMo's unite

i had an SXV 550 and loved it, would def buy another. i'd also go for a Husky SMR510... or 450 like this one...

    http://worcester.craigslist.org/mcy/3774569104.html

if you want something a little more road focused than track, take a look at the Husky SM610.

i think a WR or even a CRX would be ok since they are both street oriented dirt bikes

Monday does seem better, now that I saw what the weather will be like this weekend. I'm in Manchester, and I have to clear this with the wife; not sure if she has something planned for us. I'll let you know.

Ooooh I saw this bike at the TT open house. Made me do a double-take. Super clean machine. What's it do on the road that you don't like? I'm riding a 2-stroke on the street too.
