chris, was that the trail you took me up when we were there last year after tony left ?
it looks familar, I certainly wouldn't want to attempt that after a rain storm.

That's the "stair" trail at Tolland State forest. I think Tony has witnessed in the past a certain Yamaha Banshee make that hill/rock climb with less trouble than those bikes in the vid...I had that thing down to a science

Re: Next Sunday, April 6th, Dual-Sport/Adv bike ride

    We'll miss you, Greg.

For everyone else, we (Bill and I) went out today to check some of the route, and all is looking good.

Just as we're about to call it a day, we run into another old guy out in the woods. He starts telling us how he is on a 110 mile loop and we just couldn't resist, so turned around and followed him.

Well, this guy simply flew! Bill could just barely keep up, and I was losing ground by the second.

Anyway, he ended up taking us pretty far. Unfortunately, there was a lot of pavement between each of the dirt sections, so for future rides I'll try and find a way to cut out some of the pavement, and maybe stay in the dirty areas longer.

I barely had time to look around trying to keep up, but I think there was a fair number of "off shoots" in some of the stuff.

Anyway, things are looking good for tomorrow as far as the trails go, so hopefully the rain is done.

    See you tomorrow.

What's the terrain like? Can you ride the KLR at a brisk pace through all of it, w/o any foot dabs?

So, tony, with the on / off mix you have planned, how are you dressing?

padded street jacket or full off road body armor?

This sport is hard to dress for, you don;t want to be cold on the street and dirt road sections but at the same time you don't want to over heat in the woods.

Re: Next Sunday, April 6th, Dual-Sport/Adv bike ride

Let's see if I can remember all the questions...

This is an easy KLR event... no foot dabs. Lots of fast fire roads with a few slightly slower dirt sections... absolutely NOTHING like the state forests.

The other older guy that smoked my ass was on an XL650. I think he could have been on a V-strom and done the same. He's an old racer so he's just naturally used to going through the woods at Mach 1.

Definitely a "reggied" true dual sport. We'll probably end up doing 20 to 30 miles of pavement by the time we're done.

I'm wearing all my regular street gear. We'll cross a few puddles, but that's about it. Max speed will be 50mph and that will only be a couple of places. I'm wearing street helmet too.

Just got in from boozin'... off to bed.... see you's at 10:30 or so... ready to ride for 11. PM me if you need a phone number.

    I'm packed and ready!

Sounds like the toughest part of the ride will be my driveway. Perfect beginning of season ride for me. See you all in the morning!

Right now, it is overcast, but no rain in the forecast.

Temps will be cooler than planned though, so dress accordingly.... 45's.

    Heading out for some coffee.

Re: Next Sunday, April 6th, Dual-Sport/Adv bike ride

Thanks again, Tony for leading us around.
11 of us started the ride

unfortunately we didn't all get to finish. and my spare master link didn't seem to help the broken chain.

Good mix of terrain, some trails, dirt roads and pavement

A couple of us that didn't have teh honking huge dual sports decided to give the hill climb a go.

some of us made it all the way up and got stuck at the top

    taking a rest

    I'm loving the new bike

thanks again tony, we had a great time. hope everyone made it home safely

Looks like I missed the fin parts! lol Thanks for hosting and the ride back Tony. Sean, good effort with the link, thanks guy! Next time the chain will be riveted Sorry to delay everyones ride early.

I did get a chance to do a little "dual sporting" in the truck after I picked up the bike. Could have used more mud, but it was still better than going straight home. Drove around and grabbed some random trails until it came to a road then drove around until I found some more. Anyone see any of my doughnut spots

Got home around 4:30, went through some rain. Ate some homemade braciola (mmmmmm) and now I'm back at work getting our firewall back up! Yay!

Good time, good ride, good company.
