Flat track is now my favorite training. Relatively low risk if you're not racing, incredible practice for throttle control, balance, dynamic body position, and general cornering skills. Besides that it is oh so satisfying. Perhaps even more so than a slow wheelie.

I agree, I have really grown to love it. Thinking about doing a race weekend next summer on my fire breathing XR 100R

I think for the small bikes knobbies are ok. I thought anything 150 and above you need dirt track tires.

No, you need a CR250R with 19" flat track tires.

You've gotta be your own tuner, and BYOUG, but I'll throw some premix in it.

do those dirt tracks have clay and grooves?

a local mx track made a "flat track"...but it's a buncha dry bumpy crumbling hard pack dirt...might as well do circles in a parking lot

Supposedly there is some magic combination of dirt, clay, and motor oil; then groomed properly adding the correct amount of water. As you can imagine, the EPA hates flat tracks.
