    Weirs beach Saturday night...

Against my better judgement, I reluctantly agreed to ride to Weirs Beach on Saturday evening with my BIL, our spouses and another couple. Went up through ALton and around the lake CCW to get there. I was shocked at how few bikes I saw on the curvier roads. We had 28A all to ourselves and only ran into traffic when we got to 28. We hit traffic on 109 until we broke off toward Sandwich and then there was no traffic. 113 was clear for miles. Winona Road had no traffic at all. All the police were in Weirs Beach so we may have exceeded a speed limit or two. It was great fun until we got to Fun Spot which was anything but...

Weirs was just horrible. Wall to wall people waiting for something interesting to happen and being dissapointed for the most part. Got to hear a loud custom Harley or two (hundred thousand). Those are such rarities

Were I to do it again, I'd by-pass Weirs Beach and enjoy the desolation and lack of speed enforcement of the twisty roads up that way more.

    Weirs beach Saturday night...

This is 3 years I think I've gone up and skipped Weirs beach.

I kind of feel bad not going... but everything I hear seems to tell me it's not my scene.

Yesterday on the way home I had some idiot do a burnout next to me. Harleys coming up next to me in my lane at red lights, etc.. blah, blah. I don't really want random riders who look/ride like idiots that close to me.

I read about an accident this morning. A bunch of 40-50 somethings on Harleys. Somewhere near Weirs beach. One guy rammed the guy in front of him. Next thing you know 5 bikes are on the ground.

The cop who pulled us over yesterday said "The hospital is full". A news article I read this morning was interviewing a doctor at the hospital. He was saying the average injury these guys get at 20mph with no gear is as bad or worse than the crashes coming in from loudon at 80-90mph, especially head injuries.

Just a bit out of control.

Well I have to disagree with you guys... I go to bike week every year for the full week Sun-Sun and I stay right in the Weirs. I go to bike week to hang down there and people watch and bike watch. Along with shopping and stuffing my face with food and beer at the Broken Spoke and Roadhouse. If I want to run twisties I would not go to NH on bike week to do that. I'd go on a nice quiet fall or spring weekend when there are not a ton of other bikers running around in groups clogging the good roads up. It's all what ya make of it and what you're looking for... if you've been to bike week before and you don't like the shoulder to shoulder crowds or being stuck in traffic or if you can't handle the burn outs or occasional tit shot or skimpy clothing then stay home that week.... or at the very least stay outta the Weirs and the Fun Spot. Not to put anyone down but that's how I feel.... I enjoy the Weirs and I know what to expect when I'm there. To me that is part of the "bike week" experience and what I've come to enjoy. I do also enjoy the racing (hillclimb and Loudon) but neither of which I went to this year. The only thing I do regret is not staying longer at Jay's but we had people waiting for us in the condo that I felt I had to play tour guide for.

    anyways.. just my .02

I gotta agree with this. You don't go up there during bike week for the twisties, you go for the experience and to have a good time. The most fun I had was sitting in the traffic on Saturday. Its hard to explain but it was just fun. Talking to all the people seeing all the bikes and those bartenders at the spoke is worth sitting in any traffic for I did do a decent amount of riding away from the strip in the mornings. When I want to go up there to ride I do it any other week of the year.

I went expecting to have a good time and was even remarking to my wife that it looked like it would be fun as we were walking down the hill to the center of all the percieved action. What was dissapointing was the lack of action. I saw no burnouts ( id d see some smoke in the distance), no wheelies, no stoppies, no tit flashes, no fights, no craziness, no biker gang war, no public intoxication, nothing more interesting than the occasional blast of open pipes and shitloads of custom Harleys which are a dime a dozen. I did see lots of police and enourmous lines to get into drinking establishments. The most revealing clothing we saw was a thong... on a guy. Blech.

Having never been there at night before and having heard how great it was, I found it all rather dull. It was like going to the Deerfield fair only without as many cows and no rides. I bet it was much better 10 years ago.

I am glad someone had fun.

I also want to point out that I went expecting the roads to be crowded and was pleasantly surprised by the LACK of crowds on the twisty routes. I was not complaining about that. Those were the best runs I've ever had on all three of the twistiest roads that we rode.

The heart of the action as you speak is located on the roads leading to the weirs and before all the cops. Inside the Weirs itself is very well regulated. For the most drunken fun the spoke is the place to be. We saw lots of good stuff but most of it was earlier in the week before the major popo invasion

Like I told people on another forum, the most fun I had was while riding to and from the weirs and while sitting in traffic. Well that and staring at the bartenders at the broken spoke and watching the girls on the mechanical bull

Well if ya wanted to look at bartenders... the Spoke was ok.. you needed to go into the Roadhouse tent (near the Dodge setup) the women in there were HOT!! I should have brought a camera there but sorry we went there on a night I think I left it in the bike. But their bartenders were DEFINATELY hotter than the ones at the Spoke.. not that the Spoke chicks were bad... just the Roadhouse ones were hotter and wore LESS!

    PS.

I've got pics of this same woman from multiple years all in different outfits all with about the same amount of clothing... one of these nights when I'm not so lazy I'm going to get them all together and post them to compare her from different years...lol.

    you've seen her too??
here is last year. she is creative

as for the bike week I also go there for the week and go into the wiers for the experience. I am originally for the area and the traffic is expected every year and still people bitch. If I want to ride I certainlly don't go into the wiers.
Yes it was much better years ago before the laconia board of chairmen decieded it was a "family event" since then the police have been more of a problem then a deterrent.
You should have been there when it was only "bike weekend" thats when it was fun.

As for wheelies and stoppies where did you expect to see that with the traffic I've never seen a 2 mile an hour stoppie or wheelie and there are too many people along the roads

They are even up to the point now that if a woman shows a nipple in the Spoke (a 21 and over establishment) she IMEDIATELY gets escorted out of the club
